Sir Keir Starmer will reportedly defy Donald Trump over Ukraine ahead of meeting the US President in the White House next week.
The Prime Minister is expected to announce a new package of support for Ukraine on Monday - the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Sir Keir will unveil what has been described by some in Whitehall as a "triple whammy” of measures, including military aid and sanctions, according to The Telegraph.
The reported move is at odds with US messaging, and the new support package could frustrate the White House.
The US is pushing for an end to the conflict and held talks earlier this week in Saudi Arabia with Russian officials about a peace deal.
The Trump administration has been increasingly critical of European nations, sparking concerns about America's commitment to NATO and the continent.
Mr Trump has accused Sir Keir of doing “nothing” to end the conflict, and the two leaders are set to meet on Thursday for face-to-face talks.
The Telegraph reports that Sir Keir will use the trip to announce the date—most likely 2030—when the UK will spend 2.5% of its GDP on defence in an attempt to calm any tensions.
The Government has pledged to spend 2.5% but the path to this so far has been unclear.
Sir Keir is under growing pressure from UK political opponents to boost defence spending.
