Hyundai Motor Company and Kia aim to boost American automobile production to avoid President Donald Trump’s planned 25 percent auto tariff, according to a report.

Trump on Tuesday said the tariff rates on auto imports will be “in the neighborhood of 25 percent,” with more details to come in early April.

He noted that he will give auto manufacturers time to avoid the tariff.

“If they have a plant and factory here, there will be no tariff,” the 47th president remarked.

This is a smart use of tariffs.

Trump knows what he's doing - what a relief to be able to say that about the POTUS again.

That's how it's done. However, GM will ask for a government subsidy and more DEI.

“We’ve been digging into what life on the worksite is like, and we’ve found that since groundbreaking, there have been over a dozen traumatic injuries on the site and even more calls for emergency medical services, as well as concerns about the exploitation of undocumented immigrant workers.”

Sounds like Hyundai is trying to skirt employment and immigration laws.

I can speak for the Hyundai Sonata - daughter got into an accident (cut off), rolled 3 times and only injury was from the broken driver’s door glass that cut her arm. Those things are VERY WELL put together. Entire driver’s compartment was completely intact.

Did any of us at FR ever dream we’d see such sweeping and powerful action.

I never did.

I’m still afraid I’ll wake up and it will have been a dream :)

Point of information: The Rome, GA plant is a Hyundai battery production facility that is still under construction. (Does not excuse hiring illegals, but it’s not yet producing anything Hyundai)

Having owned both Mazdas and a Hyundai, I would suggest you reconsider.

The deportation numbers are minor at best.

If they deport at the rate they have been going—less than 2 million people will have been deported by the time Trump leaves office.

Not much considering the size of the wave that came over the border in the biden years.

As a former owner, I wouldn’t recommend them. Unless they have fixed them, the key start ones are easily stealable. And if you have the key fob type and the thief doesn’t know it, you’ll get broken into for them to find it out. Also, they have a much rougher ride much quicker than I thought it should have. I had a Kia with less than 40,000 miles and it wasn’t pleasant to ride in. It got T-boned in a wreck so I bought a used Honda. I absolutely love it. Very solid. The ride difference was incredible.
