The captain of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that slammed into a ship near Egypt last week was yanked from the position “due to a loss of confidence in his ability,” the US Navy said Thursday.
Capt. Dave Snowden was “relieved” of his job at the helm of the USS Harry S. Truman and temporarily reassigned following the wild Feb. 12 crash in the Mediterranean Sea, according to the military branch.
“The U.S. Navy holds commanding officers to the highest standard and takes action to hold them accountable when those standards are not met,” the Navy said in a statement.

Dave Snowden? Are we sure he wasn’t born Darlene Snowden? These days, incompetence in the armed forces, one can’t be too sure.
I researched him when the crash was announced. No obvious negatives. But if you crash your boat, there have to be consequences.
Always.
Right.
It’s nothing new.
Has always been the Navy way.
And he knew the moment it happened he was finished.
I don’t uave a problem with relieving captains when something like this occurs.
However, has anyone ever wondered that foreign powers would start using non military ships to cause problems like this to occur, because they know this will cause high ranking officers to be pulled from commanding ships...? And reduce our commanding officers with experience?
Like deliberately targeting our ships to reduce our numbers of experienced command officers? Because its probably green and less experienced folks making the mistakes, thinking theres no way this commercial ship will do (whatever), missing some cues because its an absurd scenario, ...
Man, you put one little dent in a $4.5 Billion carrier and the boss freaks out...
He’ll fly a desk from now on. As far as his career progression, he’s reached. EOS
At least it wasn’t aome DEI lady Admiral.
At least it wasn’t aome DEI lady Admiral.
You crash it you own it.
Was he actually at the helm at the time of the event? He could be the victim of a less qualified, DEI, officer being forced on him.
We found out quickly. They were straightforward with their reporting.
Interesting.
I am reminded of a disaster in California in 1923, when the squadron commander, Watson by name, led half a dozen USN vessels under the waves and lost his seniority, a slap on the wrist.
IIRC, all other officers (ten or more!) got court-martialed and acquitted.
Peacetime off the CA coast, and 23 men died.
That should buff right out. Call Earl Schieb for that finishing touch.
Thank God the women hatets can’t blame this on a woman unless of course it is a bio woman pretending to be a man.
Duh. His fault.
