Rand Paul endorses Trump 3 months after Election Day, admits 'I was wrong'

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., endorsed President Donald Trump in a Wednesday post on X, making the unorthodox announcement more than three months after Election Day 2024.

When making the announcement, Paul pointed to Trump's cabinet picks and a Truth Social post in which the commander in chief blasted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"A few people may have noticed that I resisted an enthusiastic endorsement of Donald Trump during the election. But now, I’m amazed by the Trump cabinet (many of whom I would have picked). I love his message to the Ukrainian warmongers, and along with his DOGE initiative shows I was wrong to withhold my endorsement," Paul declared in the tweet.

"So today, admittedly a little tardy, I give Donald Trump my enthusiastic endorsement! (Too little too late some will say, but, you know, it is sincere, there is that.)," he added. "Don’t expect this endorsement to be fawning. I still think tariffs are a terrible idea, but Dios Mio, what courage, what tenacity. Go @realDonaldTrump Go!"

The senator enthusiastically supported Trump's choice to tap former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence and former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Rand Paul opposed Trump?

I didn’t think he was that crazy.

He says he resisted strongly endorsing Trump, not that he was against him.

...that guy who changes depending on who is in the room.

Eight years ago, few, even among the MAGA crowd, would expect Trump to bring the entire right side of the Libertarian Party, Kennedy crunchy twig eaters, and the sane half of the Silicon Valley entrepreneurs on board. Trump, with assists from the DEI/warmonger crowd doubling down, and his convincing victory, is building a new coalition. This is a solid MAGA realignment, and Rand Paul brings people we normally would not expect to see on board. All it took was cherry picking the best of the libertarians' ideas, and respecting them.

“ He says he resisted strongly endorsing Trump, not that he was against him.”

He just figured there was no difference between Harris and Trump.

Like Rand on several issues but in this he literally is just chasing after the bandwagon.

Rand now that you “see the light” what are you going to do to actually support Trump, move his agenda forward?

He’s also been beat up and shot at and been assaulted on the street with his wife. He’s now no less controlled than the rest of them.

Pols on both sides of the aisle are reading the writing on the wall, but better late than never.

If you are an old guy (years don’t matter, wear and tear does), it is hard to put much trust in any politician.

I like Trump just fine, but I can see where Paul is coming from. He and his Dad just about battered themselves to death trying to get the arrogance and overreach out of the federal government.

I see where it might take a little time to develop trust in anybody in the whole system.

I’m glad he is seeing what I see and like in Donald Trump.

The endorsement is supposed to come BEFORE the election, Randy.

"...that guy who changes depending on who is in the room."

He changed his vote on January 6th...as did Marsha Blackburn. They were both going to reject Biden's electors, but turned-tail and voted to accept them. I lost respect for both of them that day. They fell for the BS spewed by the media about what went on that day, and quickly did a turn-about. Rand Paul makes a lot of noise, but actually accomplishes very little. He's an attention whore like Lindsey Graham.
