An Alabama grand jury has recommended that a city's police department be "immediately abolished," finding there is a "rampant culture of corruption," officials said Wednesday while announcing the indictment of five of the agency's officers, including its police chief.
Five Hanceville police officers were arrested and charged amid a probe into the department, Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker said. The spouse of one of the officers was also charged, he said.
"This is a sad day for law enforcement, but at the same time, it is a good day for the rule of law," Crocker said during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Officers Cody Alan Kelso and Jason Scott Wilbanks were charged with computer tampering, tampering with physical evidence, conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and use of an official position for personal gain, Crocker said.
Officer William Andrew Shelnutt was charged with tampering with physical evidence, Crocker said.
Eric Michael Kelso, who was a reserve officer, and his wife, Donna Reid Kelso, were charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and conspiracy to unlawfully distribute a controlled substance

Town must be on the slow side. Who with any sense would buy dope from a cop.
Last guy - his lawyer should be able to get him off on lack of mental capacity. He obviously wouldn’t be able to tamper with a computer. 1, 2, and 4 just look mean.

Population 3324. Once again, places this small shouldn’t have local pd, the taxpayers are better off being served by the county sheriff’s department. They only exist to fill the coffers. This has to stop.
I lived in a town that small.. They used to have two police officers and a chief.

Long story, but a few years ago, 2020, during Covid, I was in a small town in southern KY dealing with a tree guy to get a tree off of a family property. Turned out the tree guy was alocal cop, which turned into a conversation about the Summer of Love riots, and lots of other stuff, good conversation.
I commented they weren’t getting any good restaurants there because it was a dry county still, that good restaurants needed the alcohol revenue. Next thing I know, the guy is telling me he can get me some good ‘shine the next time I come.
I thanked him, but mentally my brain is spinning, it’s probably a legit offer, but he *might* be trying to set me up!
Never found out, he did our tree work quickly and reasonably.
