Trump Wants Congress to Pass Agenda in ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’

President Donald Trump has called for Congress to produce “One Big Beautiful Bill” and pass his legislative agenda.

Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday to push the House and Senate to bundle “all of our priorities” into a single piece of legislation.

The bill would be passed through the reconciliation process, which allows the Senate to bypass the critical 60-vote threshold for a simple majority vote instead.

The House has shown an inclination toward a single full agenda-encompassing bill, while Senate Budget Committee Chair Lindsey Graham introduced a budget resolution on border security and energy. This legislation notably omits tax priorities, meaning those would need to be passed separately.

This is a huge task. Trump has to make phones calls to congress like Reagan did to get his tax cuts.

I don’t like giant mystery bills where they can hide things we do not want...

We should have small bills that average Americans can read.

These omnibus that have to be passed so that we can find out what is in them is ludicrous.

I suppose the logic of one big bill is that more will vote for it, it will be non-partisan, and it will have something in it for both sides. Everyone will have to vote for things they don’t want in order to get what they actually do want. This forces the bill to be non-partisan - a great political tool.

Also not a fan of this. Let’s itemize our legislation for clarity.

So they have found a way to cut spending by a trillion or so by stopping the money laundering, correct?
What will Trump sign? The same bloated thing as last time & just keep funding the same crap?
The current CR runs out in 2 weeks so how much time will Trump & Co give folks to read and understand it?
Will they give us back $5,000 so that we will cheer the trillions more in spending?

I suppose the logic of one big bill is that more will vote for it,

Actually the opposite. One big bill provides reasons for different members to oppose any one part of it.

I listened to Graham outline his plan for two bills and frankly that seems more workable to me.

This is a necessity. Democrats have all ready vowed to filibuster everything. A giant reconciliation bill is the only path around the Democrat’s mindless bot obstructionism

That is the process the Uni-party has always used to get their corruptions passed into law. It does not look good to me.

I prefer dozens of single-topic bills which can stand or fall on their individual merits.

Score (-1) for President Trump advocating this single-bill process. A minor annoyance. Perfection from leaders is not a reasonable expectation. Let's not see too many more minor annoyances though.

No. One of the reasons for the tea party movement (which likely gave Trump the idea to run ) was these big horrible bills. There is no such thing as a beautiful woman who is morbidly obese… bills are no different.

I am with you. I shun the idea of $5,000 payments. It would all be borrowed money. I won’t turn it down if everyone else gets it though. Suicide and waste are the same if I partake or not.

How about passing a budget? What a novel idea? We have not had one since about 1997 or so I recall. Twenty-six years so I read by some.

Trump and Musk have counted chickens way before they hatch. Way before the eggs are laid in many cases. $55 Billion in questionable savings are a very long way from curing a $2 Trillion deficit. Have they given up already?

Trump and Musk are very near to the image of Flim and Flam to me at this point. Their sound and fury signifying little and their own self-promotion of ideas and success are becoming things they believe themselves. They are coming near to declaring victory and going home without finishing much.

I am very happy for their work and trying to do the right thing but they are looking more and more like great starters with short attention spans. I am concerned for their own image. How does it go? Fool all of the people some of the time, fool some of the people all of the time but not all of the people all of the time. Color me a skeptic.

“One Big Beautiful Bill” provides plenty of opportunity for hidden funding for the very same things DOGE has been trying to cut down. A bunch of specific, targeted funding bills which can be easily read and understood by taxpayers makes a lot more sense.

Congress will not apply the savings from the DOGE cuts to the debt and will simply spend that money on some other folly. Taxpayers who have been defrauded and abused for decades deserve a refund, and we will make far better use of it than the government which confiscated it from us.

Yeah, and from what I understand Lindsey Graham has put another $85 billion for Ukraine into it and funds Ukraine until 2030. No flippin’ way!
