More than half of Britons back sending UK troops to Ukraine, a poll found.
Nearly six in ten (58 per cent) told the YouGov survey that they either 'strongly' support or 'somewhat' back UK troops being deployed in the event of a ceasefire deal. Barely a fifth said they opposed such a move.
The poll found a variation between voters, however. While 67 per cent of Tory voters said they backed deploying UK troops, just 44 per cent of Reform UK supporters did. Labour supporters closely resembled Tory voters, with 66 per cent backing the move, while 70 per cent of Lib Dem voters did.
It suggests most voters back Sir Keir Starmer after being one of the first European leaders to publicly say that he was 'ready and willing' to put British boots on the ground to enforce any peace deal.
YouGov also found that 55 per cent of Britons would oppose tax hikes to pay for an increase in defence, suggesting they would prefer spending cuts elsewhere to pay for it.
YouGov polling conducted across Europe at the end of last year found public willingness to back Ukraine until it wins the war had slumped over the course of 2024.
In the UK, backing for a Ukrainian victory even if it meant prolonging the war dropped from 50 per cent to 36 per cent.
Meanwhile support for a negotiated end to fighting, even if Russia still has control of some parts of Ukraine, rose to 32 per cent.
The Prime Minister said in the Telegraph yesterday that the UK needs to be 'ready and willing to contribute to security guarantees to Ukraine by putting our own troops on the ground if necessary'.
'I do not say that lightly,' Sir Keir wrote.

Putting UK troops in Ukraine, and the slaughter they will face, will only speed the collapse of the UK lib-lab-con uniparty regime
Yep, and won’t even slow the Russians down at this point. What’s left of the Ukrainian army is at least battle-hardened. Sending the tiny UK army, apart from the handful of elite SAS types, will just be a slaughter of innocents more suited to “peace-keeping.”
Boris Johnson stopped the peace deal that had teeth, now Starmer is willing to anything to keep the warongering going. Sad!
Cannon fodder.
Ok.
Enjoy.
Stupids.
Brits need to revive the press gangs of the 1700’s.
Conscript the illegals - send em to the Ukraine
Britain may do what Britain wishes to do. What business is that of ours?
Stick a fork in the UK…it’s done.
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
That’s not what I’m reading elsewhere. The Brits do NOT want to go to war... Or peace keeping in Ukraine. I guess their polls are as “accurate” as ours are.
Into the valley of death rode the 600...
It shows the British MSM is still as powerful as always and this is what happens when you do not have s first amendment. This is just breathtakingly stupid.0
“Putting UK troops in Ukraine, and the slaughter they will face...”
Why would peacekeeping troops — after a brokered deal takes effect — be expected to face slaughter?
Considering that they throw people in jail who oppose escalation of the Ukraine War, I’d say 58% support is on the low side.
Dumbasses
It’s hard to know if this “poll” is reality-based, or, like much of British “news reporting,” propaganda directly from MI-6. If the Brits really want take on the Russkies and their various mercenary proxies with “boots on the ground,’ they’re really stupid. Did they learn nothing from their massive losses of life in WWs 1 & 2?
“Half of Britons back sending British troops to Ukraine, poll reveals - after Keir Starmer says it’s time to put boots on the ground”
the british army has only about 75,000 regular forces ... i don’t think the brits being polled have any idea what a puny force that is ... they still act like they believe they have a world empire like they did two hundreds years ago ..
It's pure fantasy. Russia has already said there will be no NATO/Western troops in Ukraine, "peacekeepers" or otherwise.
Is Starmer just going for cheap and easy PR points?
