Sana, who, like many people interviewed for this article, asked that her real name not be used, has seen some 12 mental health professionals and, she said, has had her Muslim identity questioned on several occasions.
She discovered psychotherapy and mental health counseling during her college days. It took her more than a year "to overcome the stigma and the shame associated with saying that she needed support."
In addition to the personal challenges that come with seeking mental health support, Sana faced with the additional challenge of navigating the mental health care space in India as a Muslim.
The 32-year-old development practitioner does not consider herself a very religious person, yet, because of her Muslim identity, she has faced hostile conversations while seeking psychological help.
"I am a Muslim, but I don't look or sound like the stereotypical Muslim. I am educated, can speak fluent English, am a single child, and at one point I had brightly colored hair," she said. "Often things said to me were very offensive that were rooted in deep biases against Muslims," she added.
Sana recalled her grim experience with a psychiatrist at one of India's top hospitals, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in New Delhi. "While explaining the side-effects of the medicine for pregnant women, he said: 'I just want to flag this to you because you people [Muslims] have many children,'" she said.
"I picked up the prescription and never went back," Sana said.
..A report published during the coronavirus pandemic in the Journal of Health Sciences stated that "Muslims were found to be at a higher risk of anxiety compared with Hindus." The report added: "There is evidence from the study indicating a strong positive relationship between sociocultural adversities and psychological distress."

Perhaps believing in a a pedo death cult is their first problem with mental health.
On the list of things I’m worried about, some muslim woman in India taking a well meaning conversation about the potential side effects of medicine if she became pregnant as a slur against muslims ranks just below ‘being attacked by a vampire while mowing my lawn at noon on a snowy winter afternoon’.
Also, perhaps she is a snow-flake and we are too worried about hurting peoples’ feelings. Just because you are sad about your life and choices you make is not a mental health crisis.
So, move to Pakistan.

If this, and other facts “trigger” you, you need to look in the mirror.
They’d do better to avoid an American-style mental health industry that would drug and transgenderize their children and hook their women on anti-depressants.
They can all move to Whacky Pakistan and can enjoy being mentally ill with one another.
Every damn one of them is a mental retard. How can you possibly treat all of them?
So, move to Pakistan.
“pedo death cult”
The greatest flaw in Islam is its lack of tolerance. This is fundamentally contrary to the diversity modern Western governments try to promote.
It’s not a bad thing for a man to walk in the path Jesus would, pray five times a day, be charitable and merciful and visit a shrine once in his lifetime, or for a woman to also dress and conduct herself modestly.
Hopefully, a path pleasing to God should be followed, not Mohammed’s very troubled and troubling actual path. Most Muslims know pleasing God is their top duty.
Islam is best kept in Islamic countries. If brought into DEI countries, people will die.
Leave islam and most of your mental illness would disappear
YUPPERS
Too bad, all of them could use some. Meanwhile:
There is so much to unpack in this article. Being a Muslim is probably a very small part of the reason why these people aren’t getting adequate mental health care in India. The primary reasons are that there is a stigma against anyone getting mental health care in a Third World country, lack of funds, lack of training, etc.
“”Often things said to me were very offensive that were rooted in deep biases against Muslims”
I’m sure in not because of anything Muslims have done.
Stop practicing Islam. That’s the only mental health care you require.
Hindus (and Christians) in Pakistan don’t struggle for access to the non-existent Pakistani mental health care, instead they struggle for:
1. the right to exist without being physically and verbally abused
2. the right to not be k*!!ed by Mohammedans accusing them of blasphemy (blasphemy against Izlam is punishable by dth in Pakiland)
3. the right for their daughters not to be kidnapped and forcibly converted to Izlam and married
“ Islam is best kept in Islamic countries.”
islam is a cancer on humanity. Best to excise it completely.

Sorry, but those sentences reveal utter ignorance over what Islam actually teaches
For Islam, it is not about "pleasing God" but about "submitting to Al-illah" -- and it is "Al-illah" i.e. "THE God" - they say they worship teh same God as us, but we only acknowledge that they CLAIM to worship the ONE God.
Mohammedans do not "walk the path Jesus would", but the "path that the Hadiths and Sirah say Mo walked"
Mohammedans follow the rituals 5 times a day - perhaps some do "pray" but for them it is about the ritual, there is no "personal God" as in Judaism or Christianity, no conversations with Allah - that would be shrik
And the "visit a shrine" - the shrine to visit for Mohammedans, since the 680s has been Mecca -- earlier it was Jerusalem when Islam was being created and started off as a Judaizing version of Gnostic Christianity.
