The newly confirmed Secretary of Health and Human Services for President Donald Trump fired nearly half of the vaunted team of 'disease detectives' during his first day on the job, setting the scene for a slimmed down department moving forward.
The entire incoming class of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) were reportedly told they are no longer needed as part of 1,300 layoffs at the CDC. Staff began receiving letters which told them: 'You are not fit for continued employment because your ability, knowledge and skills do not fit the Agency's current needs.'

I sort of feel bad for all those being fired, but it looks like ALL the departments were bloated with too many unrequired personnel.
“You are not fit for continued employment because your ability, knowledge and skills do not fit the Agency’s current needs.”
Damn, talk about adding insult to injury. That’s going to leave a mark.
Dr. Marion Gruber, director of the Office of Vaccines Research and Review at FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, and Dr. Philip Krause.
Forced to resign in 2021 when they refused to sign-off on an experimental serum that had not satisfied FDA protocols, replaced by Biden rubber stamps.
Do the FDA next, Bob.
Its a start—but only a start.
Pigs will squeal, though. Your media will hype this up as the end of the world.
Honesty is so abstract to Washington that they don't recognize its role and importance. There is nothing wrong with those criticisms. . It reflects more on the failures of management inside the agency, hiring people they didn't need or were unqualified for such a position, than on the person being fired. They need to go do something else.
Go, Bobby!
That’s a rather brutal statement: ‘You are not fit for continued employment because your ability, knowledge and skills do not fit the Agency’s current needs.’
Usually you hear “The company is moving in a different direction and your skills are no longer required.” It’s the same message, but a tiny bit kinder.
I take that to be the collective “you”, covering the incompetent, the simply unneeded, the corrupt and the hopelessly brainwashed all together.
But yeah, tough.
Agreed. Trump naming the Bill Gates/UN OneHealth veterinarian as the White House pandemic czar is concerning.
There is NO TRUST left with these agencies, after Covid if the CDC, FDA, NIH said to do something I would do the exact opposite!!!
Trump has a reason for naming Gates to this, he ALWAYS has a reason and it won’t be good for Gates BANK ON IT!!
Established in 1951, the EIS started with a class of 22 physicians and one sanitary engineer.
Typically 60 - 80 individuals were selected every year for the two-year program. This number was consistent for a long time. The 2023 and 2024 classes had 70 and 66 new members respectively.
Assuming there were around 150-200 active EIS officers, if half were cut, this leaves an estimated 75-100 active EIS officers.
Maybe those existing EIS officers will stay longer than their two year assignment.
In any event, 60 - 80 EIS new hires with rescinded offers is a small fraction of the total cut of 1,300 (5% to 6%).
We do indeed need to bring back some businesses to the USA.
How I would love to see
MADE IN AMERICA
on everything I own.
Kinder?
They tried to run us like cattle for two, three years.
‘You must submit to this, must wear this, must isolate & distance, your children must zombie-walk’, etc.
Good riddance, who cares if their feelings are hurt?
good news!
Would love to know Trumps reason, I can not think of a single one.
Screw all of them! They tried to dictate to us and curtail our FREEDOM!
