Brighton, N.Y. (WHAM) — Gov. Kathy Hochul said she has taken steps to address the ongoing road salt shortage in New York state, including suspending the hours of service requirements for all truck drivers to increase deliveries.

Hochul was in the Rochester area Friday and answered questions 13WHAM had about the rock salt shortage that has caused concern across the state and locally.

More than 150 trucks lined up and down Lakeside Drive in Ontario to purchase rock salt earlier in the week. Several municipalities are also dealing with shortages and delivery delays from American Rock Salt.

You can't buy road salt for your driveway/walkway anywhere here in any stores within a 150 mile radius at least. Similar to run on paper towels during the scamdemic.

Tyrants usually make poor administrators. Hochul is no exception.

It’s statewide.

I’m sure she did. It was planned no doubt to keep people from working this week. There’s an incoming storm.

Odd we seem to have plenty across the lake. I’d throw some to her if I could. :)

Um. Someone tell her the ocean’s full of salt. You can gather it there.

Or she can get it from Ohio. We have a salt mine under lake Erie.

Poor planning. Maybe she didn’t know NYS has bad winters?

Turn her into a pillar of salt then there will be plenty to spread around.

LOL...put democraps in charge and what do you expect? I’d wager $100 that this is a government-caused shortage, probably due to over-regulation. Did Hochul start a “free salt for indigenous peoples and historically underserved communities program”? Did she enact price controls so nobody can sell salt for more than it costs to mine it?

I recall throwing rock salt on snowy sidewalks over 60 years ago. I had expected there to be better ways of clearing sidewalks and streets by now. Those repeated doses of salt cannot be good for lawns or neighborhood trees.
I know that is not Gov. Hochuls main concern.

Hochul should really blame Climate Change. Because before coal was discovered, there was never bad weather of any sort. Al Gore himself told me that.

Oh, wait. Trump refuses to spend billions to fight this nonexistent problem. So it might be his fault after all.

She can buy it from the Detroit mines, too. No Canadian salt!

"Central New York" -- when did that start? It was always "Upstate New York" when I lived there 60 years ago.

"The growing salt shortage affecting counties across New York State is making it difficult for stores like Village Ace Hardware in Fayetteville"

We lived in Fayetteville! I went to the then-new junior high school off of Cazenovia Road, Eagle Hill outside Manlius. We were there for the Great Blizzard of '66." Mom and dad ran out of cigs and were frantic with nicotine withdrawal. They sent my sister and I trudging through the deep snow to the end of our subdivision to retrieve cigs from the mailbox that a friend had delivered! The main F-M road was clear, but the subdivisions were not plowed yet. I guess it was OK with Mom & Dad if the kiddos froze to death going to the mailbox.

We were at the Ground Zero Red Dot in the center of the map...
