Why ‘Education Experience’ Makes An Education Secretary Worse
The Federalist ^ | February 14, 2025 | Joy Pullmann

President Trump’s education secretary nominee Linda McMahon began her confirmation hearings the morning of Feb. 13. One of the chief attacks against her is bemoaning “a thin resume on education,” as industry lobbying outfit Education Week puts it.

“McMahon’s background in education is limited. She served for about one year on Connecticut’s State Board of Education,” says government-funded mouthpiece NPR. The government-funded New York Times notes “critics” highlighting “a relative lack of experience in education.”

“Unlike President Joe Biden’s education secretary, McMahon has little experience working in schools,” USA Today bleats. Formerly government-funded Politico says she “has minimal education experience.”

The truth is, “minimal education experience” is a qualification for running an unconstitutional agency that poses an existential threat to our republic. Myriad data indicate the education industry is one of the nation’s lowest-performing, and its institutions some of the nation’s worst.

Institutions are run by people. The people responsible for the horrific performance of America’s education institutions are the least qualified to improve them. This is Management 101. And it is borne out by numerous longstanding data points. Here are just a few.

Untrained Parents Educate Better than Trained Teachers

Homeschool parents are better teachers than the average person with a teaching degree. Now, it shouldn’t make any sense that people with zero experience or preparation for a field significantly outperform people with experience and preparation. That is not true of just about any endeavor — except education.

Almost everywhere, homeschool parents need no college or even high school degree. They need to take no classroom management or even parenting classes. They need to demonstrate no knowledge whatsoever...

Untrained Parents Educate Better than Trained Teachers

That would be because "Trained Teachers" spend all their effort on indoctrination, not education.

Who cares what her job experience was. Her job here is to transition her department to the 50 states.

when i was an infant my mom came home from work from the hospital to find me handcuffed to the crib by my ankle because my police officer dad wanted to sleep...

gotta admit it instilled a fear of being handcuffed behind bars at a young age...

For those of us who have taught real subjects, we don’t want no ‘eddikashun’ major to try our courses, lest both cells of their brain encounter instant destruction.

What the hell. I think that they should decide education issues by two falls out of three.

Education requires one to teach and three others to share the teaching experience with them——all on the payroll.

"Education experience" gave us new math, whole word reading, sight reading, kicked phonics to the curb as "rote" and "drill to kill" ... all the utter sh*t that made today's students and graduates subpar.

We all know it. We can see it in everyday life. Cashiers who cannot make change in their heads. People who type/text and what they say is rife with errors, and I don't mean a misplaced letter here or there. I mean people who spell vial when they mean vile, your when they mean you're, shoe-in when they mean shoo-in, etc.

There are mountains of evidence that schools' mission is to create a populace of a particular bent, that being the left, and THAT is the goal.

Upwardly mobile educator types have gotten us to where we are now....rock bottom.

Time for new blood and new perspectives. Mike Rowe would be great in a position of authority there at DOE.

When Peanut Boy bought off the teachers unions in 1979 by gifting them with the Department of Education, the USA was #1 in education worldwide.

Now we are #17.

We are #1, however, in the expenditure per student.

What, exactly, is the purpose of the Department of Education?

Unions and tenure have turned public schools into a sanctuary for perverts. It is unlikely that unions will ever be forced out of schools. The only solution is to drastically reduce the number of students trapped in the failing system. The mission of public school should be changed to educate kids with special needs.

Did “trained teachers” make the US 40th in proficiency and 1st in costs?
