"Vance Wields Threat of Sanctions, Military Action to Push Putin Into Ukraine Deal," blared the headline of the news report, which was accompanied on X with the caption:
"Exclusive: Vance pledged to hit Russia with sanctions and potentially military action if Putin won't agree to a peace deal that guarantees Ukraine's independence."
The headline that characterized Vance as threatening Russia---including with American military force---was condemned by the Vice-President on Friday. Vance reiterated that President Donald Trump would bring peace to the region, and said the newspaper had "twisted my words."

Vance went on to outline what options were at Trump’s disposal.
"I think certainly, look, there, there are instruments of pressure, absolutely, and again, if you look at President Trump's approach to this, the range of options is extremely broad, and there are economic tools of leverage."
"There, of course, military tools of leverage. There's a whole host of things that we could do."
"But fundamentally, I think the president wants to have a productive negotiation, both with Putin and with Zelenskyy," Vance told the newspaper.
The Wall Street Journal’s article now has an X community note attached that says that "JD Vance made no explicit pledge to either sanctions or military actions. A copy of the transcript is included in the linked tweet." The note then links to the Vance communications director's post.

The Russians didn’t believe the WSJ report either, so they asked for clarification. Now they have it.

Operation Mockingbird is everywhere!
Be funny if Vance thanked them and encouraged them to “keep reporting lies” so thst they ensure thst democrats never retake power
Which Zeeper made the headline?
Consider this little irony: JD is basically helping out right wing parties in Europe, but do those right wing parties want to spend Trump’s demand of the Euros, 5% of GDP on defense to counter Pooty??
This is very devious on the part of WSJ because when dealing with a potentially hostile adversary the threat of force is always on the table. It’s a given. But by emphasizing it and trying to force threatening public statements from American leadership at this delicate time in the negotiations they are working against a peace deal.
The WSJ has drifted left as of late.
If WSJ has a reporter in the White House, he wouldn’t be there tomorrow if I were handing out credentials.
JD Vance @JDVance
President Trump is the ultimate deal maker and will bring peace to the region by ending the war in Ukraine. As we’ve always said, American troops should never be put into harm’s way where it doesn’t advance American interests and security. This war is between Russia and Ukraine.

Never assume Trump’s opening position will be the final outcome. It’s just meant to get the conversation started.
