Saudi Arabia Says It Would Be Delighted to Host Trump-Putin Summit

The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia confirmed on Friday it is interested in hosting a summit between President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the near future after Trump floated the possibility.

President Trump held a phone conversation with Putin on Wednesday in which the two agreed to meet in person on at least one occasion, followed by a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Both talks focused on plans to end the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began during former President Joe Biden’s term after Biden lifted Trump-era sanctions on a proposed pipeline connecting Russia to Western Europe known as Nord Stream 2.

Following the conversations with both presidents, Trump told reporters in Washington that he would be happy to travel to Russia to meet with Putin and that he expected the Russian strongman to come to the United States. He also suggested Saudi Arabia as a third, neutral territory to host a summit.

Things are moving along. I’m confident Trump will get it done.

This is very good if a lasting deal is made. It sets the framework for the Saudi's hosting further negotiation parties regarding the middle east.

The Saudi's have been wobbly allies at best but they are respected in the region and would add legitimacy to any deal made there.

The Saudi’s are a pragmatic bunch. They seem to have the ability to see a bigger picture. They are not the good guys but they can be worked with.

Yes, and that's why I see them joining the Abraham Accords if that is still a Trump objective. Think of the influence those Accords/treaties would have with the remaining ME nations if the Saudis were to sign on with Israel and the other Arab nations that already have. Iran would be pretty much isolated and possibly experience a new revolution.

President Trump has created the framework for peace in the ME.

That is the goal—work with people—not try for some false morality. Nation states are not all evil or all good. America has enough blood on her hands historically (just ask any Native American) so does every land. Nations do bad things if threatened “accidents” happen that might or might not be accidents—just ask Princess Diana (but you will need a Ouija Board).

No way!
The last time we trusted the Saudis, the twin towers came down...

What kind of security could they guarantee for Putin?
