Chernobyl nuclear power plant was hit by a Russian attack overnight, striking a protective shield over its destroyed fourth reactor, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The structure, known as the New Safe Confinement, was built through international cooperation to contain the remnants of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. It was designed to prevent radiation leaks and safeguard the site and the broader area from environmental hazards.

According to Ukraine’s president, the strike by a Russian attack drone carrying a high-explosive warhead damaged the dome, but the fire was extinguished, and radiation levels remained stable.

The situation is being monitored to assess any potential risks.

Zelenskyy posted a video of the explosion on social media showing the moment of impact, calling the attack "a terrorist threat to the entire world".

"The only country in the world that attacks such sites, occupies nuclear power plants, and wages war without any regard for the consequences is today's Russia."

Something about this is off. Russia is not foolish, they know this would poison there backyard. Russia is not stupid and they are not muslims with a death wish.

I am skeptical this was intentional and could even believe this may be a set up / staged.

No, not like that. I have 40 years in Nuclear Power, I know associates who have been to Chernobyl and I have taught Chernobyl case studies.

They are not insane and naive to the dangers.

Looks like effects of defunding USAID has not yet totally taken hold...but they will.

Anyway, for those wondering, this is a FALSE FLAG, since it happened only a day after Trump made it clear to Ukraine that he’s NEVER going to get his land back.

Oh damn, good connection you made. This could easily be a political statement by Ukriane that they are willing to ruin their own land before giving up their corruption and death machine.

The truth is one of the first casualties of war.

Both sides will lie if they see an advantage to themselves.

Thanks and beyond that, always LOOK AT THE TIMING. In this case, the Munich Security Confers starts TODAY and Ukraine knows it’s the end-game for them.

But it’s sickening to see the OBVIOUS Fake News being spammed here, over and over again.

Zelensky launched rockets into Poland and blamed Russia. This is another false flag by zelensky in a desperate bid to hold power, and the only way for him to retain power is continuing the war.

--- "Yes they do, the blew up their own damn and blamed the Russians."

It is interesting that some so easily forget the missile "attack" on Poland, blamed on the Russians and turned out to be an error by the Ukrainian military. What is certain is that PR is a great part of this war.

One recalls:

"Both Russia and Ukraine regularly accuse each other of shelling the plant and risking a serious nuclear accident."

Ukraine war: UN body urges restraint after Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant hit BBC, 8 April 2024

Rinse. Repeat. Both sides, Rinse. Repeat.

Meanwhile, Mother Russia has very nearly lost 50% of the refining capacity needed to support the military and most especially pay for her government

No gas, no fuel, no military, no country
