Inflation Surges: Consumer Prices Up 3% In January

Inflation in the United States surged higher in January.

The Department of Labor said Wednesday that the consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.5 percent in January from the prior month, much more than expected. Compared with a year ago, consumer prices are up three percent.

Economists had expected the monthly pace of inflation to decline to 0.3 percent after prices rose 0.4 percent in December. The median forecast called for a 2.9 percent gain over the past 12-months, matching the prior month’s year-over-year gain.

Core inflation, a metric that excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose by 0.4 percent for the month, twice the rate in December. Economists had forecast a smaller increase to 0.3 percent.

Compared with a year ago, core prices are up 3.3 percent, more than the 3.2 percent recorded in December. Economists had forecast a decline in the year-over-year rate to 3.2 percent.

Could be solved by removing illegals.

But right now that effort is looking to be as much for show as anything.

OF course. When Bi-Dung was ruling, it was “inflation is up a bit but that’s GOOOOOOD!” Then it was revised upward a few weeks later.

Under the Biden Administration, the economic numbers like inflation, unemployment and the GDP were all rigged to cover up the real numbers.

Now to undercut the Trump Administration, the Democrats in the departments that report the numbers are doing just the opposite, reporting false numbers to make Trump look bad.

Removing illegals, lowering fuel prices and reducing regulations will drive prices lower. It will take a while to take effect.

Tariffs are needed, but they’ll boost inflation in the short term. All in all, Trump and the GOP would IMO be better off with a stock market correction and some pain early in his term rather than late.

There will be plenty of soon-to-be unemployed government lackies that can do the jobs no one else wants to do

“Make America Wealthy Again”?! That’s genuinely funny! Allowing illegals to continue to mow lawns will create wealth?

The argument is to have/bring them here “legally”, but it is still all wrong.

IMO Trump needs to double up on Miller’s role, keep him with domestic policy, but also have him replace the pharma lobbyist and good friend of Bill Gates that Trump has now as his chief of staff/gatekeeper.

The entire developed world is in inflation mode. So it will be very difficult for Trump to do better than Joe Biden. The X factor that will lower inflation, will be DOGE+Trump +Elon cutting upwards of a trillion dollar from the Federal budget. A few hundred thousand Federal trough feeders losing work-scam from home jobs is deflationary.

I really wish someone would point out that Trump just assumed office. Whatever the numbers are, they are Biden numbers. It is just stupid to try to hold Trump responsible for things that take some time. The Dems ran the country into the ground. Things have to happen to turn that around. It is happening annd effects will necessarily follow.

It didn’t surge. It’s just being reported more accurately now.

I would rather live under Trump and Elon at the helm, even if it were to cost more.
Personally, to me, prices seem flat at the moment, neither up or down.

You know that, I know that, and the democRATS know that. But that won't stop them from blaming Trump because Orange Man bad.
