Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Tuesday will be the first Arab leader to meet with President Trump at the White House. This time, it is shaping up to be more of a burden than a blessing, as the president weighs the possibility of reduced aid to sell him on his plan to resettle Gaza.
Trump’s surprise proposal—for the U.S. to take over the Gaza Strip and develop it as an international destination while its residents are relocated—has shocked the Middle East, but he has continued to press the case, including saying in an interview aired Monday that Palestinians wouldn’t have the right to return to their homes. A key question is where the Palestinians would go, and Trump hopes one of the answers will be Jordan.
That leaves the king walking a tightrope. His country is heavily dependent on the more than $1 billion in annual aid it receives from the U.S., making it vulnerable to pressure from the president. But it also has to carefully balance peace with Israel and support for the U.S. with the demands of an increasingly restive population already largely composed of Palestinians.
“Traditionally, being the first Arab visitor to the White House is an honor,” said David Schenker, who served as the top State Department official for the Middle East during Trump’s first term and is now at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. “But it’s a rather unenviable position to be in right now.”
Abdullah’s tricky task will be to work with Egypt and Gulf states like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to come up with an Arab alternative for Gaza, Schenker said: “To come in with alternatives that are both robust and will help solve what until now is a problem without a solution.”

The Palis CAME FROM JORDAN! But they are such bad trash even Jordan doesn’t want them back!!
WSJ = RINO Central. Establishment Elites.
Do an internet search on Black September Munich or Jordanian Civil War .
Trump is proposing a two state solution that will actually work. Two Arab states can take back all of their Arab people and get them out of Israel.
Israel could relocate them to the West Bank, which isn’t deporting them from Palestinian lands. From there they can go anywhere that will take them in Arabia or Muslim lands. Don’t think they will all want to stay on the West Bank. Gaza has tremendous potential, just not with Arabs living there.
“saying in an interview aired Monday that Palestinians wouldn’t have the right to return to their homes”
I don’t know what interview that was but I heard him twice say the opposite. What would be the point of rebuilding it if people couldn’t move in? He did say no Hamas or violent radicals could come back. Trump is mostly correct on this, though the conversation is fluid and the details need to get sorted. Unfortunately Gaza is a total mess, it is basically a demolition site and people can’t live there in tents for 15 years. People can argue all they want about and throw around words like genocide and cleansing but they miss the point. Humans need water, food, sewage, electricity, housing, medical care and all the rest. It is now impossible to deliver without rebuilding it, and most of the people can’t live there while it’s under construction.

Let’s say you’re living in a nice suburban neighborhood. No homeless. Low crime. Safe at night. Now, move in a million people from the ghetto. That’s what moving the Palestinians into Jordan or Egypt would be like for Jordan and Egypt. It’s suicide for either state.
Jordan tried hosting the Philistines years ago. They eventually evicted them at gunpoint.
I still say we take the white South Africans out of S.A. and dump the Palestinians there. I’m sure the Palestinians and the Zulus will get along like a house on fire. They have so much in common!
I think he means they wouldn't AUTOMATICALLY have the right to return. They'd have to be vetted first, and if they had ties with Hamas, that's a NO.
Jordan tried accepting them in the 70’s, but the terrorists were so troublesome that Hussein kicked them all out in September 72, giving rise to the org called Black September. It might be a bridge too far to ask Abdullah for a do-over.
Yep. Sept ‘72.
Drawing Jordan into this is a bad idea. Trump needs to tread lightly here.
Make that Sept ‘70.
Make that September ‘70.

Sadly a lot of us have had that with Obama’s AFFH declaration and O’Biden dumping unrestrained third world trash in our local neighborhoods. Once they get in, the place turns to trash. Luckily we mostly got central American indigenous people who are pretty low key (shouldn’t be here but they are, on our dime). With Biden’s HUD trying to end single family units and the liberal jerks at the capitol restricting permits high density multi-story apartments have popped up all over the edge of the city. With it bring the “low income” folks who have trashed it already. Graffiti everywhere where it never was before. People are not the same indeed. How long do people have to see it to admit it? There is one common thing about every third world violent s hole. Third world violent people.
Refusal of Arab states to accept the so-called Palestinians way back when resulted in the refugee camps, squalor, terrorist grooming, and endless whining that it was all Israel’s fault.
