President Donald Trump's new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, signed an order on Monday, changing the name of America's largest military base from Fort Liberty to Fort Bragg.

The name change is one of several reversals of policy from the Biden administration. The base in North Carolina was renamed Fort Liberty in 2023 as part of a national effort to remove names that honored Confederate leaders….

The names of all the forts need to comeback whether they were named for heroes of the Confederacy or not. The confederate statutes need to be resurrected also. They were Americans one and all who fought and died in that terrible war and history should not be erased. All the left will see is they won. No more meanie Confederate soldiers.

Agreed. There’s a town in Calif named after its first white settler. He enslaved, raped, beat, and murdered the local Indians. One night, they banded up, dragged him out of his house, and beat him to death. As a kid, I read about it and thought his ending just, considering his treatment of his fellow man. The town’s name was to me a reminder of that; of what happens when one treats other humans monstrously. Now a bunch of communists want to rename the town, thereby erasing that nasty bit of history.

What the name changing does is give legitimacy to complaints about names offending precious identity groups, to give them greater political power and sway in manipulating presumed guilt.

All of these various renamed forts gained their identity and fame from their own existence, and little to none from their namesakes.

Reversal of this dangerous propaganda is a commendable action, and quite necessary.

Agree 100%...Thousands of soldiers have papers that say Ft. Bragg. Changing it was totally stupid. It’s about OUR soldiers...not race.

Hegseth renamed the base to pay tribute to Pfc. Roland L. Bragg, a World War II veteran from Sabbattus, Maine, who earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his "exceptional courage" during the Battle of the Bulge.

After the War Between the States, the country wanted reconciliation.

The South recognized that The Union would exist henceforward and the North recognized that Confederate soldiers fulfilled their citizens’ duty to defend their country.

The War was over.

we should always remember that New York, both state and City, was named after the Duke of York who later became King James II.

He was the Governor of the Royal African Company. The RAC shipped more African slaves to the Americas during the Atlantic slave trade than any other company.

Shall we rename New York?

Exactly right. This is the first cowardly move I have ever heard of from Trump or Hegseth.

Base names were connected to the locale - Braxton Bragg was from NC, John Bell Hood was from Texas - to gain the support of the community - not some bogus phone book method of matching surnames. They were recommended by the residents. What this is is nothing more than Swampish posturing, hiding behind a fig leaf.

This is every much destroying history as the Dems tactics.

but its such a fun game to play

We should have some aboriginal Alaskan name their son McKinley.

Then we can name the mountain for the baby.

And not changing it back to being named after its original namesake is a half measure intent on placating both sides.

The Liberals should get no measure of satisfaction from this. Their efforts to change the name should be erased completely, not by using this cutesy half measure.

Well said. It is indeed a timid measure, and leaves them with the problem of putting other base names back to what they were. It may be likely that there exists no other meritorious people of the same last name that will allow them to pull this trick again, and it leave the problem on the table to be dealt with again later.

They should have simply reversed the liberal moves and with absolutely no apologies for doing it.

Yeah....the Confederate ties need to be expressly brought back. Firstly, this is part of our history and the naming of US Army bases after Confederate leaders was part of the reconciliation that brought the country back together again after the war. Secondly, we need to openly and obviously shove it right down the Leftist’s throats. We need to make it obvious to one and all that they will NOT have their way.

This is just about the stupidest result possible. Either name it after the Confederate General or keep it as Fort Liberty.

It’s a stupid thing to fight about - it’s a tawdry incidental thing, elevated into some sort of woke ‘value’ worth discussing. If altering the alleged namesake takes the wind out of the woke sails, all the better, as it shows their simple-minded pettiness.

Frankly, Ft. Bragg’s inherent fame is greater than it’s namesake(s).
