ALBANY — Democrats in the state Legislature on Monday abruptly killed legislation that would have changed the rules for scheduling special elections in New York — a move that Republicans had alleged was being considered to try and weaken the GOP’s thin majority in Congress.

Sorry for typo in title! It’s late for me, but I’ve been quite worried about this.

I believe there are going to be quite a few seats opening up once Kash and Tulsi get confirmed, along with Elon Musk finding which Democrats have been getting kickbacks from USAID, Social Security, Medicare ans Medicade fraud money.

Yes, thank God!! I live in her district. Hopefully the GOP will pick someone Conservative enough to fill her seat. Claudia Tenney was originally my Rep. Unfortunately, RATS stole the seat from her in 2018, and in 2020, when she ran to regain the seat, the election ended up in the courts over rejected ballots. She eventually prevailed, but never got sworn in until February 2021. The following year they split her district, and we ended up with Brandon Williams as the new district GOP candidate in 2022. He took office in January 2023. Summer 2024, they took Rome, NY away from Williams and gave it to Elise Stefanik. Williams lost his bid for a second term last November, and is now United States Under Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Security. I voted for Stefanik in November, only to find out she was chosen for Ambassador to the U.N.

There are several individuals who have thrown their hat in the ring for her seat. I'm going to try to learn a little more about actual Republican contenders, and figure out who the best choice will be. The thing is, RATS will seriously try to steal this special election.

After redistricing lines were decided, Hakeem Jeffries came from Washington, and met with NY state democrats. They then added the Cornell area and Ithaca college area, to Brandon Williams district. No way could he win.

I guess they are starting to figure out that they’ve already got their asses in deep kimchi.

Thanks. I didn't know the background of that deal. I expect even more skullduggery from the RATS in this special election. They are so desperate for this seat.

All the more reason I wish Stefanik would withdraw her name from contention and let the president pick someone else other than an elected representative for the UN spot.

There's gotta be plenty of other talent out there and our margin in the House is just too thin. God forbid, Hakeem Jeffries gets the gavel, that's the end of Trump's agenda. It'll be nothing but investigations, special counsels, and impeachment hearings.

I agree with you.

Stefanik has been very effective in the House, and she should remain there.

Yep. Trump was naming all these reps to his administration while California was still hard at work stealing another dozen House seats.

Once the counting was done and the steal was complete, Trump should've privately asked her to withdraw. I have no doubt she'd have understood and agreed.

As it is, the Dems are going to put everything they've got into winning Stefanik's seat and while I'm sure she's in a safe district, we all thought Jeff Session's senate seat was safe as well.
