I skimmed through the beginning of the transcript and found out what the indirect payments are. If a guy gets a $100,000 grant, then the university or host research facility gets additional indirect grants to offset physical plant costs and administration expenses. Most places get up to 60% of the original grant amount, money that they can spend as they see fit, since the amounts needed for facility costs are just a small part of that. It’s just a big slush fund scam.

That’s crazy. One lab could be conducting many studies at once. 60% X multiple studies for one lab really adds up.
