The complaint, filed in State of California Superior Court in San Francisco this week, asks for damages and a jury trial.
The mother, Marina Baran, her son, Daniel Baran, who was 19 when he was killed, and her husband, Alexander Baran, are listed as the plaintiffs.
Baran's son took his fatal thrill ride in January 2024. His body was found on the tracks near Balboa Park Station.

Bart should sue the parents for raising such a stupid son.
No Ma’am. You are owed nothing. Your son was 19 years old, legally a card carrying adult. He chose to throw his life away, indulging in juvenile deliquent, antisocial behavior.
You can’t say he “didn’t know,” the danger of what he was doing.
Something doesn’t add up. KTVU says the mom doesn’t blame BART and still rides (not “surfs”) on it.
A guy two years ahead of me in high school was playing on top of the trains and ended up taking the eternal dirt nap.
Something bad happened, so someone needs to pay.

Kind of reminds me of this guy. Trains can be dangerous, they weigh a lot.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chris Lindley, a highly sought high school basketball player who signed a letter of intent to play at Kansas next season, was in serious but stable condition Monday after losing his right foot in a train accident.
The parents (and their attorney) are probably looking for just-go-away money. Meaning they hope BART decides it’s not worth the cost of going through a trial - even though BART would probably win.
So BART gives the parents $10,000 to drop their lawsuit, and just go away.

But that exposes them to future suits from future moron kids and grifter “parents.”
They need to take Deputy Fife’s advice.
