Let's Repeal Gun Free Zones
Cowboy State Daily ^ | February 6, 2025 | John R Lott Jr

Would you post a sign announcing that your home is a gun-free zone? Would you feel safer? Criminals don’t obey these signs. In fact, these signs are a magnet for criminals because disarmed victims are seen as easy targets. . . . A deputy in uniform has a difficult job in stopping these attacks,” said Sheriff Kurt Hoffman in Sarasota County, Florida. “These terrorists have strategic advantages in determining the time and place of attacks. They can wait for a deputy to leave the area or pick an undefended location. Even when police or deputies are in the right place at the right time, those in uniform who can be readily identified as guards may as well be holding up neon signs saying, ‘Shoot me first.’ My deputies know that we cannot be everywhere.” There’s a good reason air marshals on planes don’t wear uniforms. If you have an armed officer in a school, don’t make him readily identifiable. Give him a staff position in the school so it won’t be obvious that he is the one person with a gun. But designated officers shouldn’t be the only people who can protect students. . . . [Much more]

I saw a sign in someone’s window once to the effect of *This premises is protected by a shotgun 4 days out of the week. You guess which four.*

I remember that nonsense back in 1968. Some people actually had signs in their windows saying “This House is Not Armed!”
It did not last long.
Others chose “SOUL BROTHER” signs.

One of my favorite cartoons from that era was a white man loading his shotgun during a race riot. His wife says “For heavens sake, can’t we just put a SOUL BROTHER sign up like everyone else?”

“Children of the present day would be somewhat startled to go to school attended by large dogs, to keep off the bears and other wild animals, to study all day by the crackle of the great fire and back logs, to hear the howling of wolves at rollcall, and see the teacher take from its resting place over the door, a trusty rifle to guard the way home. Such were the first schools in 1800.”

Incentive. If a place declares itself a gun free zone, make them legally liable for the protection of the person required to give up their 2nd amendment rights. If they fail to protect, sue them.
