We really did a number on them with those two bombs. We had to do it, but they haven’t been right in the head since. It’s all hello kitty, stunted development, origami and now they vanish.
And when they do this new vanishing thing it’s hell to try and find them…. they all look alike.

They stay at home watching Anime and playing games.
They have withdrawn from society.

They can do the same thing in Albuquerque, according to Better Call Saul. Just ask for a new dust filter for your Hoover Max Extract Pressure Pro model 60. You will likely end up in Omaha managing a Cinnabon.

In Albuquerque, that is way more plausible than people think.

Maybe it was “Spontaneous Human Combustion”
Mr PotatoHead brought the 70’s back.

Hard to believe that would work in a hyper-digital society like Japan.

I knew a dude that (according to his best buddy) faked his own death. Guy liked to go fishing, and he went out early Saturday morning into San Diego bay in a tiny boat. The boat was found washed up on the Strand south of Coronado, all of the guy’s stuff in it except for him and his fishing pole. The cops reported it as “probable boating accident; boat operator is missing.” Never found a body or the guy walking around in Mexico, but his buddy swears that the man faked the accident.

I think a lot of these disappearances are due to a sense of shame over failure; and that would seem to be due to a societal value that puts too much importance on appearances.

"We had to do it, but they haven’t
been right in the head since." Were they "right in the head" before WW2?
I doubt that they were.
And I agree with you that we had to nuke them.
Now the question should be:
"Are Americans right in the head?"
What would the Japanese say to that?

In Japan folks disappear. In the United States, it’s the opposite. We have folks who simply won’t shut up and go away.

when I was growing up we just called them “Hobo’s”. amazing so many were found out to be rich and powerful then one day just disappeared only to be found out after passing who they were.

I have heard of some cases here in the United States, although not in overwhelming numbers.
