War of attrition strains Ukraine’s army

Anastasia, a Ukrainian combat medic, volunteered to join the army in 2022. She had no military or medical experience but wanted to help wounded Ukrainian soldiers in rear hospitals and planned to stay far from combat.

Last fall, while on medical leave, she discovered that army command had transferred her to one of the hottest spots of Russia’s war against Ukraine, near Kurakhove in the eastern Donetsk region.

“I did not even have basic military training by the time I arrived. My former command forged my documents,” said Anastasia, who asked to be identified only by her first name.

Anastasia said her new comrades are helping her adapt: “Already in this new brigade, drivers [have] taught me how to assemble a gun and [have] helped me a lot.”

Her story is being repeated across Ukraine as the country’s military struggles to fill personnel shortages caused by the fight against Russia’s relentless advance in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi issued an order on Jan. 11 to transfer over 5,000 air force personnel to the ground forces. That raised alarms Ukraine was sacrificing highly trained specialists it will not be able to replace to join frontline fighting.

“The problem that Ukraine is facing is not that they are running out of money, [it] is that they are running out of Ukrainians,” U.S. `Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during his confirmation hearing.

The situation is straining the military, with soaring numbers of ill-trained and exhausted soldiers going AWOL, difficulty in recruiting new troops and arrests of respected and popular combat officers.

That’s turning into a political problem for Kyiv as it tries to demonstrate to U.S. President Donald Trump that it makes sense to continue backing Ukraine as he presses for a swift end to the war.

This can’t be.

I read a dozen articles a day (some here) that Ukraine is 14 minutes away from taking all of Russia.

Someone’s lying...

Not to worry… plenty of ZEEPERS are available to volunteer. I’m sure they’re willing to prove that they don’t care if THEIR blood is spilled just as they don’t care about the shedding of the blood of other.

The Ukraine army has dropped from 1.5 million soldiers to less than 350, 000 in the field overnight when they did an audit of payrolls

Billions of dollars in aid money were massacred overnight

The Asov Brigade members have been caught laughing about their function as motivational battalions

Motivational battalions are Stalin Era technique to use armed political officers to shoot conscript troops in the back if they refuse to move forward or try to retreat from the battle line

So, Uk suffers from the same birth rate problem as other nations. Nazi families are failing to drop out another one.

I hear the current call up age is 25. Surely they can find lots of under-25s capable of fighting, as pretty much every army has since the beginning of wars.

In a war of attrition, the team with the fewest people and the fewest resources loses. That’s the whole point of this long hard slog by Russia.
