Road Trip: Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida

NAS Jacksonville is located in Duval County, Florida, within the city limits of Jacksonville. The base sits on a piece of land between the St. Johns River and Ortega River historically called Black Point. The airbase is part of the overall Jacksonville Naval Complex, a collection of Navy Bases in the Jacksonville Metropolitan Area that include Naval Station Mayport, the former Naval Air Station Cecil Field (now Cecil Airport), Naval Outlying Landing Field Whitehouse, and the Pinecastle Range Complex.

NAS Jacksonville hosts seven active P-8A/P-3C squadrons, three reserve squadrons and four helicopter squadrons. Additional major tenants include Commander, Navy Region Southeast; Fleet Readiness Center Southeast; Naval Hospital Jacksonville; Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast; Fleet Logistics Center Jacksonville and Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing Eleven.

Some 90 other tenant activities also call the station home. NAS Jacksonville is one of the largest employers in the area and contributes to the growth and prosperity of Northeast Florida with an economic impact in excess of $2 billion annually.

Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE) is the largest tenant command aboard Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fl., with several offsite locations. Established in 1940, the facilities at FRCSE have turned out almost every type of Navy aircraft - fighter and attack planes, patrol, antisubmarine, reconnaissance, transport, trainer, special configuration and helicopters.

The overall workload for FRCSE has expanded to include the rework of engines, components, and ground support equipment, plus other support functions vital to the Fleet.

The NAS Jacksonville Environmental Department implements programs that ensure environmental compliance, prevent pollution, sustain natural and cultural resources and promote continual improvement of the Station environmental management system while providing services, materials, and facilities to enable war fighter readiness.

The Station Natural Resources Management Program encompasses fish and wildlife conservation, forestry, land use, and conservation based education and recreation on four separate properties.

Sounds like you’re on the roller coaster too. We’ll be getting whiplash here before the week’s over. 72 today, then two days of low 60s, 70s for a day followed by upper 50s, another 70s day, then a string of 40s.
My seatbelt is cinched tight! LOL

The rain is on either side of you, leaving you high and dry. Kinda like it does when there’s rain here. The west half of the state gets rain, it fizzles out before it gets here, then cranks back up to soak NC. Not fair! LOL

The kittehs are all sleeping and I’m enjoying the peace and quiet ..... for now. :-)
