At the end of January, President Trump issued executive orders that revoked security details for former National Security Advisor John Bolton, former CIA Director and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Dr. Anthony Fauci — despite ongoing, credible threats against their lives.
“Do you want to have a large detail of people guarding people for the rest of their lives?” Trump asked. “I mean, there’s risks to everything.”
Asked if he would feel partially responsible if something happened to any of them, Trump replied, “Certainly I would not … They made a lot of money. They can hire their own security.” The president offered to give them the phone numbers of “some good security companies.”
A few days ago, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth cancelled the security detail protecting retired Gen. Mark Milley and ordered an inquiry to determine if he should be demoted.
Combined with his pardons and commutations for Jan. 6 rioters and convicted seditious conspirators, and the cancellation of security clearances for dozens of his political adversaries, Trump’s actions have launched what could be called the “imperious presidency.”
The federal government has an obligation to protect its public servants from job-related threats. One can hope that all Americans will condemn putting these men in harm’s way because they corrected, criticized or condemned their former boss......
Trump has often compared himself to Abraham Lincoln. But he clearly has not yet signed on to the 16th president’s call for “malice toward none” nor for “charity for all,” let alone tried “to bind up the nation’s wounds.”

Interesting about the author bringing up Lincoln “to bind up the nation’s wounds.” Especially after how the left opened the wounds by tearing down civil war statues and erasing Confederate names.
That was so they could hide their own dirty history.
IMHO we should revoke security clearances of everyone who leaves office.
The Hill is trash and has gotten much worse since the election.
Exactly what I voted for. Crush the Deep State bureaucracy.
The Hill* - short for The Steaming Hill Of Excrement
LIARS There is no “revenge”. There is a very prudent stop to wasting Govt resources
President Trump made a very good point.
Why should people have life time security, paid for by the taxpayers, because they once worked in Government? These people got very rich while in Govt. They can fund their own security. If they want, he will send them a couple of number of people who can arrange their new security.
Someone should inform ‘The Hill’ that a person who STABS YOU IN THE BACK is NOT AN ALLY.
great point!
Criticized him? Is that what you call it. Thank God it was just criticism. I thought it was more like persecution. trying to imprison him. bankrupt him and his company and his family. drive them into ruin. Possibly even assassinate him. Rotten bastards. the whole lot of them.
They didn’t “criticize” him.
They betrayed him.
IMHO we should revoke security clearances of everyone who leaves office.

I agree. What is the need for those no longer in office to have security clearance?
Exactly what I voted for. Crush the Deep State bureaucracy.

Yes, but faster! Faster!
As far as Bolton and Pompeo are concerned, Iran is on its heels and, although couched in anti-Israel rhetoric, they’ve already publicly renounced any efforts to assassinate President Trump.

The main threat to Bolton and Pompeo came from Iran. With Trump as president, Iran knows there will be a a heavy price to pay if they harm any American official, past or present. That knowledge is what will protect Bolton and Pompeo.
"Opinion: Trump extracts revenge dishes out just deserts on former allies and Washington DC careerists who criticized betrayed him and the public trust."
How's that?
Exactly, and if they go to the private sector let them go through the background checks again and let the company cover the costs. Most retired government aren’t worth spit, the company I worked for all the retired Colonels we hired were a net loss.
The Shill has been awful for a long time.
Bolton and Milley got shot in the ear ?
