Canadian food companies plan to expand production to U.S. as tariffs loom

Flourish Pancakes and Mid-Day Squares are rare examples of successful Canadian startups manufacturing and delivering food products consumers can readily prepare and eat. But with U.S. sales either the largest or fastest-growing part of their businesses, neither believes they can withstand the 25-per-cent tariffs President Donald Trump has said are coming Feb. 1 without making changes to their operations.

Canada’s second-largest pancake mix brand and a pioneer of high-protein refrigerated snacks are looking to expand production across the border to serve the U.S. market from within that country, mirroring a KPMG survey that found almost half of Canadian businesses plan to move more investment and operations to the U.S.

Here's an idea for Canada, and for Mexico:

Instead of bitching and moaning, do the following:

Stop illegals and drugs (especially Fentanyl) from flowing into the United States from your country.

Use your military if you have to. Just stop it. Cease and desist.

If you do that then new tariffs are removed.

If you don't do that then we will crush you.

What illegals? A few thousand a year vs a million from Mexico? Come on now. And it’s not as if American production of fentanyl is any less than Canadian!

Why is it CANADA’s responsibility to “fix the border”? It’s a JOINT border, why has America failed to “fix it”? It isn’t possible for Canada to stop all drugs crossing the border. By that logic why hasnt US Customs themselves stopped the flow? They are surely more responsible to protect American borders than Canadians are.

Is it Canada’s fault that America is full of drug abusers? American demand is the issue. There are trailer parks and ghettos full of addicts, the American addict population exceeds the ENTIRE POPULATION OF CANADA!

It's Canada's job to stop the flow of both drugs and illegals flowing through their country into the US. They are the conduit. It needs to stop, and it needs to stop now.

Also, spare me the whining about tariffs.

How about Canada reduce their own tariffs against the US which have long been in place, like butter, milk, cheese, and eggs?

Do you think US taxpayers should be subsidizing US dairy farmers because they Canada has destroyed a lot of the dairy farm export market?

Don’t forget the highly subsidized Canadian lumber exports.

It’s one of the longest trade disputes in US-Canada trade relations.

Shut down lumber and timber coming in from Canada.

That will help the AMERICAN Timber industry and timber growers.

America first.

“the American addict population exceeds the ENTIRE POPULATION OF CANADA!”

There are not 40+ million addicts here. Don’t post made-up B.S.

Thank you for referencing that article .

"Trump’s Tariff Folly"

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Didn't PDJT47 mention a short while back that foreign companies would get around his tariffs by opening factories in U.S.?

Canadian food companies plan to expand production to U.S. as tariffs loom (1.31.25)

Are you sure? Add up all the dope users, pill poppers, hard drug users….it is a massive chunk of the population. Drug addiction is ingrained in the U.S. populace. All races, ages, rich and poor.

It is equally an American responsibility. You telling me America shouldn’t have to police its own border? That’s not the “Canadian border”, that’s the JOINT U.S.-Canadian border. America has failed to secure its borders, blaming the Canadians is a cop-out.

Next you going to say Canada is to blame for fentanyl-popping Americans? The drug user is the one to blame. Americans are to blame for America’s drug problem. The nation of Canada is NOT sending Americans drugs, certain nefarious criminals are. Take action against them, both nations.

The war on drugs failed at home, and so will blaming foreigners.

Or Americans could stop being drug fiends. You’re justifying a trade war because of poor wittle druggies? So George Floyd is the reason for tariffs, got it.

Man conservatives can play both sides of the coin, first he is a demon who got what he deserved and now he is the poster saint for trade war.

Trump will fail his second term if this continues. Economic destruction on all sides is not a winning strategy. Stick to deportations, stopping immigration and shrinning rhe government and deficits. All those capitalist type things.
