Joe Biden tried to bankroll the use of electric school buses at government schools across the country.
But as the electric buses continue to have massive reliability issues, some schools regret taking the federal handouts and now want help from the Environmental Protection Agency to get themselves out of the program.
...
There are at least six districts reporting massive problems with Lion Electric school buses they bought through the federal program.
...
The two electric buses received by Yarmouth Schools have been with the district for a year and a half, but they have only been used a few times because of functionality issues
...
We are trying to work with Lion to have those buses replaced, or to receive compensation for those buses, but really not making much progress at this point and time,” Yarmouth Superintendent Andrew Dolloff said
...
We run them for a day or so and then we get error messages about engine failures or battery failures..
Dolloff reported difficulties in communicating with a representative from Lion Electric, which does not have any staffers in the area to handle bus maintenance.
We are not able to run them until those messages are cleared,” ..
Waterville, Maine, reported on the same issue at government schools in the state, noting that the Biden administration earmarked $3 billion for the project across the country.
As of last fall, the EPA burned $1 billion of those funds to put just 5,000 electric buses on the roads.
...
For those keeping score at home, that’s a healthy $200,000 per electric bus, which is much more expensive than your typical diesel school bus.
Even beyond the inflated cost, the poor reliability of these electric buses points to the folly of trying to manipulate the free market for political reasons.

Super new green deal scam.
Nothing ever to do with “saving the earth.”
Suckers born every minute! “Oh boy, free school bus money!”
If the buses are not moving.
And if they keep the kids away from the parking area.
Then they will avoid what happens to EV buses.

That was part of this much longer version of several fires.

Gee....who could have seen this coming?? [/s]
Even CA gave up on electric semi trucks.
One of the rare times you see the plural bus spelled correctly.
Busses can mean two things, commonly. Neither one of them involves a form of mass transportation.
Thank you WSJ.
Rant over.
The buses, which cost about $345,000 each, were also sold with misaligned or incorrect lettering on the sides, and other districts have reported broken rivets on the bodies of the vehicles.

Unexpected.
One of the biggest problems with school systems is that they get most of the smart stupid people.
A small price to pay for virtue signaling.
On the bright side, the kids are finally getting a proper education in green energy.
“A small price to pay for virtue signaling.”
I agree, the PROPER thing to do is to take the federal money, buy the e-buses, and then park them front and center at the school...and leave them there.
Similar to people who buy EVs. They also know that the DUMBEST thing a person can do with an EV is actually drive it, so they don’t. Just keep it looking clean and sharp and you can meander around at your parties holding your nose up at all of the gas-guzzlers.
Electric Buses in Main in the winter. Absolute idiocy.
Kids love em. Siten in the bus all day beats goin to skrwel.
Crazy.
Thanks for the info.
Fools and their money are soon parted.
“”We run them for a day or so and then we get error message””
Error message that probably reads:
Sucker!!
From a July 2024 Fox 5 DC report about the Montgomery County Public Schools e bus plan:
“ BETHESDA, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - A plan to acquire more than 300 electric buses for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students has led to “millions of dollars in wasteful spending,” according to the results of an investigation released Monday by Montgomery County Inspector General Megan Davey Limarzi.”
…
“ We are going to be saving upwards of 6,500 gallons of diesel fuel per day, and immediately this is going to cut costs by 50 percent,” now-former MCPS Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight said at a 2022 press conference held to showcase the first of the new buses.”
….
“ It found that buses have repeatedly been delivered late, that mechanical failures have made many of them “inoperable for extended periods,” and that “MCPS did not exercise contract provisions to force the contractor into compliance or penalize them for noncompliance.”
Furthermore, the IG report states, “MCPS is spending over $14 million to acquire diesel buses to compensate for not receiving the anticipated electric school buses.”
Those 4 buses were in Wilbraham, Mass. They had not yet been used to bus children. The manufacturer was Lion Electric.
