Of all the possible climate futures, there's a scenario where the United Kingdom and north-west Europe buck the trend of global warming and instead face plunging temperatures and freezing winters.
It's not the most likely outcome, but a number of scientists fear that the chance of it happening is growing, and that the consequences would be so great that it deserves proper consideration.
They are concerned that the ocean currents that bring warm water from the tropics to the North Atlantic could weaken - or even collapse - in response to climate change.
Huge uncertainties remain about when - or even whether - a collapse could happen. So, how likely is it, and what would it mean?
The system of Atlantic currents, called the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (Amoc), is a key reason why the UK is warmer than Moscow, despite being a similar distance from the Equator.
Forming a vital part of our climate system, this conveyor belt distributes energy around the planet, bringing warm, salty water from the tropical Atlantic to cooler regions south of Greenland and Iceland, and also the Nordic Seas.
The warmth from the ocean is transferred to the air above it, helping keep temperatures milder than they otherwise would be.

Boy don’t those BBC Brits love it when Freepers get into their comment section with comments and replies
One can recognize this as a Pseudo Science because, unlike real Science, there are a constant parade of new excuses why real observative date does not fit the cult of Global Warmings previous dogmas
Obviously, because I always freeze to death when I turn on the oven!
Yes, for the same reason that:
War is Peace.
Freedom is Slavery.
Ignorance is Strength.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” --George Orwell
Trump is stopping the warming flow of the Gulf Stream (named after the Gulf of America) until Nigel Farage is prime minister.
From Oh Susanna:
It rained all night the day I left
The weather it was dry
The sun so hot I froze to death
Susanna don’t you cry
The ice age is coming, the sun’s zoomin’ in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growin’ thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
‘Cause London is drownin’, and I live by the river
There is a longstanding theory that the last ice age didn’t really end, and we are only in a temporary lull. The gulf stream will inevitably fail, and Europe will return to its glacial climate. Of course the Left will want to blame it on global warming, like they do everything.

It will happen as soon as we hit the fabled “tipping point.” Of course, Guam will tip over then, too, thus balancing out both sides of the world.
Isn’t that an oxymoron? Cold produces heat?
The Laurentide ice sheet was a mile thick from where I type and what we commonly know as the Great Lakes formed only 10,000 years ago, libtards are unable to process 5th grade geology and astronomy.
I remember when I did a trip to Alaska, all the tour guides kept lamenting how the glaciers were retreating. And my first thought was, imagine how those folks felt when the glaciers were advancing.
The glaciers have been retreating since the ice age ended, roughly 10,000 years ago. Climate change is natural, but don’t try to convince them of that.
Yeah, the whole planet will get colder with global warming.
For the average citizen, all global warming articles should have a government foot note added saying that regardless of climate getting colder or hotter, cheap plentiful electricity will be guaranteed to be available for heating or cooling your home.
Let us know that we will always have a functioning thermostat, don’t give us tales of warmer and colder doom, while also killing off the temperature control in our homes and offices.
An interglacial period is a geological interval of warmer global average temperature lasting thousands of years that separates consecutive glacial periods within an ice age. The current Holocene interglacial began at the end of the Pleistocene, about 11,700 years ago.Interglacials end naturally due to changes in Earth's orbit, tilt, and precession, collectively known as Milankovitch cycles. Historically, interglacials have lasted around 10,000 to 30,000 years. The Holocene has already lasted approximately 11,700 years, suggesting it might be nearing its end under natural conditions.During the 2.5 million years of the Pleistocene, numerous glacials, or significant advances of continental ice sheets, in North America and Europe, occurred at intervals of approximately 40,000 to 100,000 years. The long glacial periods were separated by more temperate and shorter interglacials.
The Apocalyptic Warmists believe that the CO2 we've released will extend the current interglacial to 50,000 years or might prevent it from ever ending.
