Democrats Should Have Stuck With Joe Biden: outgoing DNC Chair
Newsweek ^ | January 31, 2025 | Amir Daftari

Posted on 02/01/2025 5:03:24 AM PST by DoodleBob

As the Democratic National Committee prepares to elect a new chair, outgoing leader Jaime Harrison says Democrats should have stood by Joe Biden in the 2024 race. In an interview, Harrison reflected on the party's defeat and argued that Biden, despite his struggles, had earned their loyalty.

Newsweek has reached out to the DNC for comment via email.

Why It Matters

The Democratic Party's loss in 2024 has prompted internal debate over whether dropping Biden was the right decision. Harrison's comments highlight divisions within the party and raise questions about how Democrats should approach future elections.

What to Know

Harrison, who is stepping down as DNC chair, defended Biden's record and expressed frustration that Democrats abandoned him after a poor debate performance. He argued that the party should have followed Republicans' example in standing by Donald Trump despite his felony convictions.

'Bump in the Road'

"I went into this thinking, OK, you've got probably the most successful of my lifetime legislative president who has poured tons of money into making sure that not just Joe Biden and Kamala Harris get elected, but Democrats get elected," Harrison said. "And then when he hits a roadblock, when he hits a bump in the road, do we stick with him, or do we jettison him?"

Harrison acknowledged that Harris faced challenges stepping in late but emphasized that her campaign had little time to adjust. "Had she had more runway, it would have been probably easier for her and for the campaign. We were building a race for Joe Biden."

Chances are Biden would have lost by less than Harris, and it would have been easier to move on from him than from her. All of which is good for us, that they didn’t stay with him.

See Brandon? You should’ve hung in there. You were president dammit. Stay the course! But nooooo. Nice work on pardoning the entire crime family, though. Time to fill the walls with Hunter’s masterpieces. Let’s go Brandon.

Bidern promised to run for one term only, they should have had him keep that promise. But I’m guessing internal primary polling showed Kamala would not do well in a REAL primary. The democratic party nominates whomever’s “turn” it is. How they determine that is proprietary lol

It's been said that democrat polling showed he would lose 50 states if he stayed in the race. It would have been an even bigger blow out had he run. It's why they got rid of him.

All Trump had to do was rerun clips of the disastrous debate. There was no coming back after that. It opened the doors to massive public recognition that we had a big problem in Joe.

I like that they are being delusional about this. May they continue wandering in this self made wilderness for decades.

Of course.....snx.

Biden “won” over Trump with 81 million votes.

Look at Biden’s rousing rallies and tell me he
wasn’t headed for a resounding reelection...../s.

“OK, you’ve got probably the most successful of my lifetime legislative president who has poured tons of money into making sure that not just Joe Biden and Kamala Harris get elected, but Democrats get elected,” Harrison said. “

This is an outright admission that Dems buys votes. All that wasted spending produced nothing but inflation. Despicable.

Keep examining and keep losing. Every reason they come up with, that I’ve seen, has been every reason they lost. America last, Americans last. Power first.

Is this a joke? We have not had a duly elected president for the last four years! Joe Biden was managed, & any decisions/actions during those years were made by unelected staff or ??? Citizens of the USA have been used by traitors who stole their tax dollars and enhanced their own pockets, persecuted and/or prosecuted political dissidents, and promoted the silly agendas we witnessed. I am angry beyond words, and I want public prosecutions. This can never happen again.

The dem ticket lost 8 million votes between 2020 and 2024, while Trump gained over 3 million. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but you don't need to be a conspiracy theorist to see something wrong with that.

Democrats Should Have Stuck With Joe Biden: outgoing DNC Chair

In the 1960 debate, Nixon was sharp and out-debated Kennedy, but he had five o'clock shadow and sweated a little bit, so he didn't look professional and prepared.

In the 2024 debate, Biden looked like he belonged in a nursing home.

She was VP for four years. That was plenty of time for her to show what she's about.

2024 Trump didnt “just win”. America reached a stunning national consensus -— we have not lived in anything resembling the nation that was envisioned by our Founders. That is about to be reversed, dramatically evidenced in 2024 when a broad coalition voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump.

<><>Dems lost the White House, the House, the Senate and the popular vote.
<><>Dems were rejected coast to coast,
<><>Republicans won majorities in 31 out of 50 states
<><>Trump’s big victories: Wy (72.3%), WVa (70.1%), N/Dk (67.5%), Idaho (66.8%), Ok (66.1%).

<><>Trump received more than 2.5 million votes than he did in 2020
<><>Trump gained ground in all 50 states
<><>Harris saw a decline of seven million votes from Biden’s total 2020.

<><>Texas boosted Trump’s total in the popular vote by a net of 900,000-plus votes
<><>Florida a competitive state saw a dramatic swing in Trump’s direction.
<><>Trump’s win reflects major shifts in South Fla and South Texas Latino voters.

<><>Dem Gov Whitmer outspent Repubs 4-to-1, but Repubs still made gains in state elections.
<><>Dems saw huge vote declines in blue states.
<><>NY votes sank by more than 800,000 from Biden’s 2020 total.

<><>Ohio Sen Sherrod Brown, working-class champion, toppled by a Republican
<><>Biden’s party is increasingly dominated by elite voters.
<><>Trump won 101 Chicago precincts-—home to high numbers of city workers,
<><>Trump won 22% of the Chicago vote-—increased from 2020’s 16%

<><>Pelosi’s own deep-blue S/Francisco base saw a 7-point swing to Trump.
<><>President Trump won 312 of 538 electoral votes, including all seven battleground states.

<><>Republican flips CA seat (district has 14 pt Dem registration advantage)
<><>Republicans control the Georgia General Assembly.
<><>Trump-backed Republican takes Alaska’s only House seat.

<><>NYC Asian precincts saw a 31% rightward shift to Trump.
<><>Pubbies popular vote lead is 4 million (1.4 mill by “Dem count”)
<><>late votes increase lead for Ca Republican House incumbent
<><>pitching for Harris, Obama is wrong about Trump, a-g-a-i-n.
<><>issues Trump ran on polled landslide majorities.

<><>Rural areas went foursquare for Trump
<><>In 2024, Trump won rural America by a record margin.
<><>Since 1980, no candidate has done better.
<><>Trump won 64% of rural voters according to exit polls.
<><>The previous best was 61% – set by Trump in 2016.
<><>Dems 6 points over Trump in NJ, is their closest surge in three decades.

<><>YouGov poll saw 57% aged 18-29 w/ favorable views of Trump, a 19 point increase.
<><>Trump gains among 18-29’ers account for 16% of the 2024 electorate.
<><>Young people gave Trump victory, a profound, historic generational realignment.

<><>Trump Won More Black Voters Than Republicans won in 48 Years
<><>Trump’s historic win shifted 48 states to the right,
<><>Trump’s landslide earned him a mandate to govern.

And there you have Democrats’ 2024 debt-ridden $2.5 billion collapse, up close.

loyalty or Jaime Harrison attempting to shift the blame for a loss to others who threw Biden under the bus?

She is wiggling free of the responsibility for the loss

She really discredited one of the fundamental tenants/lies of the democrat party, that they are the party of the smart/educated people. She was so obviously not smart. She was humiliatingly dumb.

The DIMs are so delusional...and criminal. Yes...they should have kept with a semi-comatose head of a crime family who was allowing (through his dementia, if nothing else) leftist criminal fools and insane mentally disturbed nitwits “run” this country into the ground while illegally stealing an election and using extreme “lawfare” to harass and jail those who disagreed with their racism, hatred and insanity. Yes. that would have been something.

I laugh at them as they are (hopefully) dispersed into the winds. Pox upon them for eternity.

MAGA!

If the turnip had stayed in the race he wouldn’t have made it to election day. He was on his last legs by the debate.

The Democrats have a “systemic’ presidential candidate problem.

The real powerful Democrats like Pelosi, Schumer, Dingle, Warren, Bernie are unelectable, as was Hillary, in a general election. The way they like to govern doesn’t work with a popular figure a majority will vote for. They like division.

They will however tend to dominate the House where AOCs and muslims thrive. Not a good plan for them.
