The air traffic controller on duty at the time of the deadly passenger plane-Black Hawk helicopter crash in Washington, DC, was doing the work of two people, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Staffing in the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,”
...
Understaffing resulted in a controller pulling double duty — overseeing helicopters while also guiding arriving and departing planes on the busy airport’s runways, the report found.
Those responsibilities are normally split between two controllers,

The Biden-era report also highlighted the agency’s commitment to DEI policies.
“The FAA is fully committed to ensuring equal employment opportunity while maintaining the highest safety standards as outlined in the agency’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan 2021-2025

The facility should have had 30 on deck, as per the goal set by the FAA and controller’s union. Shortages have caused many controllers to work 10-hour days and six-day weeks.

Of course, but when you leave lots of loose ends things unravel
“Helluva price to pay for being stylish.”
And to think years later Tyne Daly would be in a series with another female partner.
Ultimately it is the helicopter pilots fault.
He should be able to fly with little to no air traffic control. He is in the military.
Are there problems with air traffic control? Yes.
Someone effed up bad...Yep
That is SOOO sick
Apparently Yes .
I'm confident the cause of this is a major eff up. So it shouldn't be too hard for them to come up with a cause.
Amen, Jim.
Nothing... can explain away, this absolutely scum, demonic behavior.
This happened over Germany years ago with a DHL cargo jet ✈️ and a Russian passenger plane ✈️
Controller in Switzerland was doing the job of two people - gave conflicting orders to the Russian plane when TCAS had already resolved the conflict
.
LOL, glad I actually read the subtitles.
Bookmarking, to learn who is... Jim Parsons.
It’s real. Sadly...
Yeah but Euro rules didn’t clarify which to ignore, the ATC or TCAS in the German midair. Our rules said go with TCAS every time.
Was the saddest stories I’ve ever heard and that didn’t end with the crash.

Was the supervisor a member of a protected class? And did he or she allow another fellow member of a protected class to leave early or get away with a long break?
It was reported that the day before a plane had to avert a landing because a helicopter appeared in its path and messed up the runway approach.
Russian pilots were told to obey ATC over TCAS - according to one air disaster investigation
The controller also read the planes incorrectly - told the wrong plane to look in the wrong spot
At the closing speed it would not have made a difference
But TCAS was correct, of course
Good points I’m sure. Thanks for the mention.
Hate to see it. There was quite a period of no big fatality
crashes broken.
I saw the report about the incident the day before. At least with President Trump being in office, we won’t be fed a line to cover up the truth.
Not hard to understand. Should have been thirty but there were only 22 controllers. 8 were working from home and haven’t decided if they were going to return. The DEI team was there (the blind one, the deaf one, and the mute one) but they were on their mandatory rest period.
