The top three states based on the median-sized worker paycheck are:
Washington, DC: $100,800
Massachusetts: $75,700
Alaska: $70,000
DC residents also earn twice as much as the median earner in 13 states. New Mexico’s workers can’t be too happy. DC workers now make nearly two and a half times as much as the average New Mexico resident.
And for what? Washington, D.C. produces almost nothing. There are no farms, no factories, no distribution centers, no manufacturing. The swamp does produce lawyers, lobbyists, regulations, rules, politicians, politicians’ minions, special interest groups, journalists, and bureaucrats.
You’ve heard us say it many times: Washington is a city where people come to do good and end up doing well.
They’ll say: “we live in a place with expensive real estate.”
My response: “time for many of you to find a new home.”
$7 Trillion in annual Fed.gov spending goes somewhere.
And a hugely disproportionate amount of it stays in DC and Northern VA
... and that’s just an average in a city full of poor people.
And the average feral government employee earns 40% more than the average private sector employee.
Washington DC, aka imperial Rome on the Potomac.
There are two ways to get rich. One way is to produce goods and services that other people want, and to work hard to do so efficiently. The other way is to plunder your neighbor. Guess which approach is used by the population of the Capitol District?
Washington DC, aka imperial Rome on the Potomac.

My prediction is after we ‘blunder’ into the next big war, a new political zone will be created in the Midwest.
A Rome to Constantinople type move.
Metro DC is an expensive place to live. But metro NYC is more expensive and IIRC the Bay Area is as well. And,of course,Hawaii and Alaska is damn expensive. But then,The Swamp takes care of its own.And DC is Swamp Central.
The Taxpayers are paying them.
A sizeable percentage of the Black middle class lives and/or works in DC. That reason alone will cause efforts to downsize to lag.
My son lives in Arlington and rents a condo that sells for $500k but would sell for around $300k in the midwest. His future in laws live in Manassas where the cost is a lot lower but comes with a 50 minute drive.
Lois Lerner is emblematic of the arrogance and disdain for America citizens that is prevalent in government and the federal workforce.
And unlimited taxpayer money for benefits.
When you all leave, prices will drop.
Worse, when they get done screwing the country, they move to a lower cost area on pensions based on these outlandish payrolls.
“And the average feral government employee earns 40% more than the average private sector employee.”.
Would like a source for that. Would agree they have better benefits and better job security. But anecdotally, for me, it seems the private sector pays more.
Very true.
Not true. If you only consider white collar office workers (you cannot consider food service or retail workers to compare with FedGov workers), then the average white collar office worker earns $150,000, about 50% more than the DC bureaucrat.
