A small aircraft crashed near Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, on Wednesday night.
In a post on X, D.C. Fire and EMS said a small aircraft in the vicinity of the airport had crashed into the Potomac River. Fireboats are currently on the scene.
It is not known at this time if anyone was injured in the crash.
The airport is closed until 11 p.m. “due to an aircraft emergency,” the Federal Aviation Agency said on its website. The airport said all flights are under a ground stop as emergency personnel responds to the incident.

Possible helicopter vs plane incident at DCA.
Confirmed small aircraft down in Potomac River vicinity Reagan National Airport. Fireboats on scene.
I think it’s worse than a small aircraft. From what I’m hearing, there’s a helicopter involved too. Still too early to speculate but prayer’s go out to all involved.
I recall landing at DCA in the Spring of 2001. Some hoops had to be jumped thru, I believe at that time a reservation/slot was required. Then after 911, it became near impossible to land there for GA aircraft.
“It is not known at this time if anyone was injured in the crash”
Seems the logical question would be if anyone survived the crash.
Seeing reports that it’s an American Airlines CRJ-700. Not a small plane.
There is a significant response from fire, EMS, and police for an aircraft reported down in the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport. Initial reports of a possible midair collision. Victims have been found by one of the rescue boats.
Yeah that’s a 747 sized plane.
What I saw on X was 60 on the AA plane and a police helicopter was hit.
Do those carry 60 or 65 passengers?
Also, I’m worried because so many of Trump’s people are in and out of DC for confirmation hearings.
Reports on Twitter say AA5342. Unconfirmed.
On “Live from Studio 6B” they said there’s a report that there were 60 people on the airplane.
Similar thing happened at Dulles in the early 80s.
I see too many ambulances at that location for that to be a small plane.
Not nearly a 747. Seating capacity of 75-80 passengers.
If it’s in DC the question one wonders is, who was on the plane?
CRJ-700 are small airliners used mainly by the regionals.
That flight is from Wichita to DC.
