An F-35 fighter jet crashed this afternoon at Eielson Air Force Base near Fairbanks, according to an official there. The pilot was not injured, but a military official had few additional details

You can see the parachute in the video
Glad the pilot is ok but goodbye $115 million.
I wonder if it lost power and just spun out?
80+ million down the toilet... But at least the piolet is okay and the ejection system is obviously in good order.
Compressor stall.
No power.
Irrecoverable.
Dock his pay.
$82mm-100mm cooked.
That is the worst thing about this jet. Having a single engine is fine for a low-cost disposable plane like the f-16. A single engine on an all-purpose plane worth north of $80 million is idiocy, and those in the procurement process that approved it wasted literally billions on a dumb idea.
“Glad the pilot is ok but goodbye $115 million.”
I’d like to know the DEI status before drawing a conclusion, as it’s possible that, if DEI, then more planes will be lost to them (”them” a little Leftist lingo).
The idiocy started when they decided they needed to make a fifth generation stealth fighter that was supersonic and STOVL.
That engine was roaring. The video shows the plane rolling after the pilot ejected. The parachute is visible in the early upper right frames. The FBW system should have gone neutral if no pilot input for roll...in theory.
Can't tell much of anything else from the video clip.
That’ll buff right out!
That engine was roaring

I think you are right
At first I thought it was the other planes engine (the one visible at the beginning of the video)
There have been a least three F-35’s that have gone down in the last year or so that I can remember.
A reasonable assumption at first glance. A flightline is rarely quiet. I have the hearing aids to prove it.
That is correct
Adds to the “DOGE” workload.
And the F-35, particularly the F-35B (which is the most expensive version), was born from the "Common Affordable Lightweight Fighter" program. It was supposed to be inexpensive. It was supposed to be the low end like an early F-16, as opposed to a no compromise air superiority fighter like the F-22.
We really need to get a grip on our military contract process (yeah, Captain Obvious, I know).
That’s OK Lockheed has been test flighting them since the 21st all around Ft. Worth.
Chinese chip in the flight controls?
