German Citizen and US Border Official Shot Dead Near Canadian Border

The US officer and German citizen were shot dead during a vehicle check near the Canadian border. Both he and a companion had been under FBI surveillance.

A German citizen has been shot dead in an exchange of gunfire near the border with Canada. Both he and his companion Teresa Youngblut, a US citizen, had been under surveillance by the FBI for several days. Youngblut, who was shot, will be brought before a US federal judge on Monday. When US Border Patrol officers conducted a vehicle check on Interstate 91 around 32 kilometres south of the border, the driver of the car opened fire on the officers.

The passenger, German citizen Felix B., and a United States Border Patrol officer were shot and killed in the exchange of gunfire. According to court documents, about 15 minutes after the vehicle was stopped, the female driver of the vehicle exited the car, pulled out a handgun and opened fire without warning. B. attempted to draw a weapon but was shot.

A Washington state woman was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent during a traffic stop in Vermont near the U.S.-Canada border earlier this week, federal authorities said on Friday. Teresa Youngblut, 21, allegedly shot Border Patrol officer David Maland during a traffic stop on Monday along Interstate 91 in Coventry.

Authorities had been performing "routine surveillance" on the duo since January 14, after a hotel employee appeared to raise concerns about Youngblut being seen with a firearm and both individuals dressed in all-black tactical gear.

When investigators approached them for questioning, they declined to engage in a lengthy discussion, saying they were in the area searching for property to purchase. No further details have been released yet.

He had been working on Wall Street at one point trying to beat stock market.
Apparently he was no longer working there.

These two were certainly looking like terrorists based on their descriptions.

That said, looks like the FBI might be back on track, actually back at doing something productive towards national security work instead of carrying out Inspector Javert-type pursuits upon dissenting citizens.
