JD Vance has blistering response for Catholic bishops who criticized ICE raids in churches: ‘Worried about their bottom line’

Vice President JD Vance fired back at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops over its denunciation of the Trump administration rule change allowing ICE raids in churches and schools.

Last week, the religious group slammed the move for “turning places of care, healing, and solace into places of fear and uncertainty for those in need” and warned that it endangers “the trust between pastors” and “the people they serve.”

“As a practicing Catholic, I was actually heartbroken by that statement,” Vance, 40, told CBS News’ “Face the Nation” in an interview that aired Sunday.

“I think that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops needs to actually look in the mirror a little bit and recognize that when they receive over $100 million to help resettle illegal immigrants. Are they worried about humanitarian concerns? Or are they actually worried about their bottom line?” he asked.

“If they’re worried about the humanitarian costs of immigration enforcement, let them talk about the children who have been sex trafficked because of the wide open border of Joe Biden,” he added of the Catholic group.

I don't expect this to be a popular opinion, but I wish Trump and Vance would not order ICE raids in churches. That is plain wrong, 100%, and both of them should know it. Having said that, I haven't yet heard of any such raids.

This is the second questionable thing I've heard Vance say. The first is where he ridiculed childless women who owned cats--a cruel thing to say and he should be ashamed of himself for saying it.

If Vance is a practicing Catholic as he says, why would he call out the US Conference of Catholic Bishops when they criticized Trump for threatening to breech the sanctity of the Church? This is also wrong, in my view.

Having said all that, I feel proud of Trump and how he is sticking it to the Democrats and progressives, except in these two cases.

What's wrong with him for saying that?

I expect my church to cooperate with lawful authority, not grandstand about providing sanctuary to criminals. Vance is in the right here. That said, the better PR move would be to just cut off all federal funding to Catholic Charities.

So you believe the leftist narrative about his reference to childless cat ladies?

I suppose you believe the narratives on “good people on both sides” and “suckers”?

Since the Churches want to get in on the political pay to play, I think it’s time they start paying their fair share of taxes.

An even better response would have been “Remember Christ’s words...”render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s...”

I politely disagree. As soon as you make any location off limits for ICE, you give the illegal immigrants an opportunity to continue to circumvent the law.

Anyone here illegally should never have peace from being arrested and deported.

i thought you would be happy vance called them out on their rank hypocrisy and greed since the only thing your about page says is

“Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.” Ephesians 5:11

id expect you would welcome the exposure of an entity breaking the law by harboring illegals . ..... thats telling,...makes you look like a tare.

Have you researched how much Catholic Charities gets of Our money to supposedly aid illegals?
And how much of their Own money they spend to help illegals? Hint, almost zero
If we taxpayers didn’t give them money they would be out of business.
So their complaining is only to try to keep their scam going at American taxpayer expense

No you can’t hide illegal activity behind a church. The Muslims try this with their mosques in France probably here too. Is it okay for them to hide terrorists too? Almost every single illegal has broken multiple laws by the time they established here. Would Jesus pack heroin across the border, steal a social security number and drive an 80s vintage Toyota with lawn equipment in the right lane of I5 at 55mph... I don’t think so

...........................................

Furthermore, the priest during confession and in his homily should be counseling these illegals to return to their homeland and stop violating the law.

So you think killers, rapists and child molesters should have a safe place in the Catholic Church?

“I expect my church to cooperate with lawful authority, not grandstand about providing sanctuary to criminals.”

I am not sure this is a big problem.

I can't see a pastor with a five thousand square foot church building attempting to house 50,000 criminals forever.

Any attempt to go down that road will backfire on the virtue signalers.

Even the Pope is smart enough not to announce he is accepting any and all refuges into the Vatican.

You nailed it. No one is to be allowed to dictate how and where the law will be enforced. They’re not going to raid churches, but the churches shouldn’t get any wise ideas either. I am practicing Catholic and there is nothing in church law that prevents me from criticizing the bishops, so here goes: As a group, they, like the Pope, are leftist hacks who play footsie all the time with a political party that supports the murder if a a million babies every year. Their appeals for funds are profoundly dishonest. One Sunday every year I see my bishop by video presenting a heart rending tale of all the good the bishops do. Dishonest because money is fungible and they never talk about the huge amount of aid arms of the church provide to illegals

It is wrong because many women (and men) may not have had children they had dreamed of all their lives so they find pets as their only companions later in life. It is very sad for them and he comes along insulting them. I you have children to love and pour yourself into loving them and making sure they grow up and are by your bedside one day, then be very, very thankful because many won’t have that luxury.

“Schools and churches...” “Women and children and families..” Repeat those often. As often as LA News says “firefighters.”

They aren’t going in to churches. How many of the 12 million can they hide?
