Trump Made a Big Move Against the Deep State

In a decisive move that has sent shockwaves through the political elite in Washington, President Trump has dismissed 17 inspectors general.

“The inspectors general were dismissed via emails from the White House Presidential Personnel Office, with no notice sent to lawmakers on Capitol Hill, who have pledged bipartisan support for the watchdogs, in advance of the firings, the person said,” reports Politico. “The emails gave no substantive explanation for the dismissals, with at least one citing ‘changing priorities’ for the move, the person added.”

Trump’s brazen move provides an early test for Congress, less than a week into Trump’s return to office, and in particular to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) who has long championed the independence of inspectors general. And it shows how willing the president is to stretch the limits of his authority to dismantle the federal government bureaucracy that he and his allies label the “deep state.”

[…]

Inspectors general are tasked with ridding the government of waste, fraud and abuse, one of Trump’s stated goals. But he has remained long suspicious of federal government officials who he blames with stymieing action during his first term in office. Trump’s early picks for top government jobs show the value he is placing on loyalty above all else.

Naturally, Democrats and the media are up in arms over this story:

I’m not ready to accept the article just yet. For all I know, Trump fired IGs for not doing their job.

These so-called “watchdogs” have been doing a lousy job.

By definition, inspectors general are supposed to be independent federal watchdogs who are tasked with identifying and cleaning up waste and abuse in government.

Of whom, or what, are they "supposed to be independent"?

”Inspectors general are tasked with ridding the government of waste, fraud and abuse,…

Right. So we just wrapped up four years of basically nothing but those things. So what you’re saying is they were fired because they weren’t doing their job?

The media never reported Obama’s purges, hoping no one would notice.

I don't recall President Trump saying that he's eliminating the role of independent Inspector General. I though he just fired all the incumbents in the role as being compromised based on their lack of oversight during the lawfare against him since 2017.

I fully expect President Trump to name new people to these positions.

Oh that is very good move. The IGs have been more about protecting the Government agencies then doing their job for decades.

The agencies they are supposed to hold accountable. And that’s the problem; they are buddies with the people they’re supposed to hold accountable and are thus not doing their jobs.

It’s old now, but obama’s firing of IG Gerald Walpin and a bunch of others comes to mind. He put in, instead, people who were yes-men to whoever pulled their strings. Since that time, IG’s are a total waste of time and money.

And anybody who wants to argue otherwise needs to explain how the Biden regime was able to be so utterly, utterly lawless in EVERY AGENCY.

Too bad Horowitz at DOJ was not fired. His reports consistently gave cover to the Deep State.

Maybe if the Dems hadn’t urged the bureaucracy to resist the first time around, this wouldn’t have happened.
