Donald Trump has been president for three days and one of the big automakers, Stellantis, is already announcing the reopening of a plant in Illinois which will make new Durango trucks in Detroit.
This is not a coincidence. This is what happens when the United States has a leader who cares about American jobs and building products in America.
This is also a reminder of why so many American union members backed Trump in the 2024 election, even though union leaders backed Kamala Harris.
Do you think this plant would be reopening if Harris had won?
Yahoo Finance reports:
Stellantis responds to Trump’s tariff threat, will restart Illinois plant and build new Durango in Detroit
Big Three automaker Stellantis (STLA) is making a number of US moves in response to the new Trump administration and its focus on building products in America.
In a letter to employees, Stellantis North America COO Antonio Filosa acknowledged that group chairman John Elkann met with Trump ahead of his inauguration and noted Trump’s “enthusiasm” for his strong commitment to the US and growing jobs and the US economy.
Stellantis — which owns Ram, Jeep, Dodge, and other brands — confirmed a number of specific actions it will take to “entail a multibillion-dollar investment in our people, great products, and innovative technology, all here in the US,” Filosa said.

Really?
Where do we get such brilliant editors?
The Belvedere plant! The very one that Biden visited!
The Durango will sell well to police agencies as they have discontinued the previous 4 door version of the charger. I don’t think they have any other police package but the Durango now.

Prickster has been crying about Stellanis not honoring the deal they made - it takes a real boss to get things done.
Gas and diesel are making a comeback.
Commatosis:
“If a killer asteroid was, indeed, incoming, a spacecraft could, in theory, be launched to nudge the asteroid out of Earth’s way, changing its speed and the point of intersection.”
Haven’t you ever been to Detroit, Illinois?
It’s really nice there in the winter, kind of like Chicago, Florida!
Detroit, IL. Isn't that next to Chicago, MI?
No Hemis!
Hey now. There was a documentary movie about that. 😊👍
If they were smart, they’d start making a cheap full-size pickup truck there. With a little quality (I know that’s asking A LOT for Stellantis), I’d bet they could sell all that they could make. Lots of companies (small and large) need work trucks and don’t want to spend $80k on them.
That one had me scratching my head too
Trucks built in Detroit then modified in Illinois
Or trucks built in Detroit that identify as being built in Illinois?
Where do we get such brilliant editors?
They are paid by the word.

(Let's just ignore the fact that Detroit is in Michigan.)
Then they can buy the very basic yet capable Nissan Frontier
“Then they can buy the very basic yet capable Nissan Frontier” which will soon be named the ‘Honda Frontier’. That will be the last vestige of Nissan.
