Snow blankets New Orleans during historic Gulf Coast winter storm
New Orleans isn’t known for being a snow town but on Tuesday a winter storm blanketed the Big Easy in fresh snow. To the west, the first-ever blizzard unfolded in parts of Louisiana and Texas. Mid-City New Orleans recorded 9.5 inches of snow by Tuesday evening.
New Orleans shattered its one-day snow total record by noon when Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport recorded 8 inches of snow. The new record breaks the Dec. 31, 1963 record of 2.7 inches.
North of downtown in Mid-City, 9.5 inches of snow was recorded, according to the National Weather Service.
The scene along Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans on Tuesday was surreal. Palm trees swayed in the wind amid falling snow and near-blizzard conditions, with wind gusts exceeding 45 mph.
FOX Weather Storm Specialist Mike Seidel recorded 4 inches of snow in Baton Rouge before noon.

It’s called global boiling.
But don’t worry the WEF is meeting right now.
They plan to take our money which of course will make the weather better.
It’s science!
Minor historic. It happens every 5-10 years.
the Gulf of America ...
The kids must be in heaven, and 10 inches in New Orleans is amazing.
More than 2 inches of snow, and your tires aren’t touching the road anymore
And I’ll bet most cars in the region DON’T have winter tires or all-season radials ... that’s a recipe for problems
Drive safe, Louisiana!

No Texas County Has Experienced These 3 Weather Events, Until Now
Before I go on with this article, let me expand on the headline. No Texas county has experienced these 3 weather events within a 30-day period, until now. I didn’t want to mislead anyone, but only so many words are allowed in a headline.
But, who had an EF3 Tornado, record-setting heat, and a blizzard for the 30-day trifecta for Jefferson County, Texas?
Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service issued a BLIZZARD WARNING for several counties in extreme southeast Texas, including Jefferson County.
Squalls of heavy snow moved through the Golden Triangle on Tuesday morning, pushing snowfall totals to a half foot or more.

SE Michigan has not had a single snowfall of that size yet this winter.
Other parts of Texas got snow on Tuesday, too. Here’s how snowfall amounts compared
Snow has finally ended across the Lone Star State. As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, radar images show the bulk of the snowfall sitting over Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and northern Florida. This historic winter storm, though, will continue to drop heavy snowfall over the Deep South and Gulf Coast late Tuesday and into early Wednesday.
While the winter storm is over across Texas, it no doubt left its mark. The highest snowfall totals occurred in far Southeast Texas, but other regions picked up at least some snowfall, including the Austin and San Antonio metro areas.
The farther south and east you went across Texas, the higher the snowfall totals ended up being. The Beaumont area, which received it first-ever blizzard warning from the National Weather Service on Tuesday, picked up between 3 and 6 inches of snow. The highest snowfall report was 6 inches, which came out of Pine Forest, a small community just outside of Beaumont.
Farther west, heavy snow continued across the Houston metro area, where an average of 2 to 4 inches of snow occurred. It was the most snow Houston has seen in one day since 1973.
The highest snowfall report in Harris County came from Baytown, where 5.5 inches of snow was recorded. Rare accumulating snowfall also occurred as far south as Galveston island, where at least an inch of snow accumulated.
Snowfall totals lessened as you moved north and west of Houston. Between an inch and 1.5 inches were recorded in Texas cities such as College Station, La Grange, Flatonia and Gonzales.
Finally, even lower snowfall was recorded along the Interstate 35 corridor. Austin officially picked up at least 0.4 inch of snow while San Marcos recorded slightly more, coming in at 0.6 inch. Much of San Antonio picked up a dusting of snow, with between 0.1 and 0.3 inch across Bexar County.
And, we thought our 3”, in SE TX, was a good amount 😂
Wow...10” in NOLA...amazing.
Many of these states have no snow removal equipment. My daughter at school in MS had a terrible winter car crash and totaled a Hummer sliding into a house downhill. They don’t have salt so they put down gravel. It will be a mess.
I’m in South Alabama. My SUV has Nittos……
And I’ve spent winters in Korea, Bosnia and Afghanistan……..
I’ll have to roads all to myself……
That pesky “climate crisis” just won’t make up its mind what it wants to do. I’m starting to think “climate change” is a woman.
How rare is this southern snowstorm? Texas, Louisiana, Florida blanketed by snow
The snowstorm currently lashing the Gulf Coast – which included the first-ever blizzard warning in Louisiana – is being described as a once in a generation weather event, the National Weather Service said Monday.
How rare is snow for some of these southern cities? “This will be the most significant winter storm the Greater Houston area has experienced since at least 1960,” the weather service in Houston said.
Elsewhere, New Orleans hasn’t seen measurable snowfall since 2009. And it has been 35 years for Jacksonville.
“This will be an historic snowfall for the Gulf Coast,” noted meteorologist Paul Douglas on X, who added that in many parts of that region, “there are no plows – they will pretty much wait for the snow to melt (which happens later this week).”
Louisiana has never had a blizzard warning.
Same here in the South Carolina Lowcountry. North of Charleston we have a about 4 inches of snow. It’s over now and next time we can expect it again will be during President Vance’s first or second term.
