Denmark is reportedly open to the idea of meeting with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to discuss the future of Greenland.
According to two sources who spoke to Axios, Danish officials have sent "private messages" to the Trump transition team in recent days expressing a willingness to meet to discuss the national security of the territory and U.S. military presence on the island.
However, Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede maintains that "Greenland is for the Greenlandic people" and said its citizens "do not want to be American."
The development comes about a week after Trump said he would not rule out military or economic pressure to take control of Greenland.
"We need Greenland for national security purposes," Trump said during a press conference on Tuesday — hours after his son, Donald Trump Jr., landed on the island.
Greenland does hold strategic military importance due to its location. The U.S. operates a military base in northwest part of the territory, which is vital for missile defense and space surveillance.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark and has been exploring potentially becoming an independent nation. However, its leaders have maintained that independence would not involve U.S. annexation.
The prospect of the U.S. acquiring more land also raises questions about international implications, particularly regarding relations with powers like Russia and China.
Since this is a discussion about international agreements, shouldn’t they be meeting with Joetato for the next week?
While I support the acquisition, I also believe there is nothing we would do there that we wouldn’t otherwise do...because of Dane ownership.

Honestly they have less than 60,000 people on a land the size of Texas, TIMES THREE.
That’s right the BBQ capital of the world , Owensboro Ky , has the same population. That means each person in Owensboro could have a plot of land equal to 7 thousand Owensboros if they divided the land out.

Ultimately, yes. Denmark is too small and weak to consolidate their control over Greenland.
If we don't do anything about it, it's likely in a decade that either China or Russia will seize control.

About 3/4 Owensboro sized plot of land to each person from that city.

Crap, now Trump has another rabbit to chase around. We have enough problems in the states we have now. Don’t need another shiny object to get the new team off focus. Let’s see some changes made here before we go out looking for more challenges.
I’m curious about how we “buy” them. There are 50K or so citizens of Greenland. Pretty cheap to offer every man, woman and child $5 million.

57,000 people could make bank on this. A lousy $57B would make each citizen a Billionaire. Is Greenland worth that much? I’d say if they sell to the CHICOMS it would cost us much more than that in defense spending.

One poll of the 55,000 residents found 31,500 for and 21,000 against becoming Americans. Múte Egede speaks though his hat.
Greenland is already part of NATO through Denmark. So it already enjoys American protection. So there’s no “security” rationale for America to take possession of it.
