The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is reportedly attempting to kill the Laken Riley Act, a bill that requires the DHS to take illegal aliens who have been charged, arrested, or convicted for crimes such as theft, larceny, burglary or shoplifting into custody.
Pablo Manriquez, a news reporter, wrote in a post on X that “sources at DHS” were informing him that the cost of the Laken Riley Act was estimated to be between $20-$30 billion.
Manriquez added that the DHS sources had cited “a $7 billion figure just for beds BEFORE the mandate’s costs on local law enforcement.”
The post from Manriquez came in response to

What does the estimated cost show that they know about the magnitude of the problem?
I am amazed by the outgoing appointees’ obliviousness to their own irrelevance with only 7 days (five “work” days) until they are private citizens. Why on earth would anyone care what they think?
Maybe we could just give them a bullet instead of a bed.
Can some folks estimate the cost of caring for illegal aliens and the cost of criminal activity by illegal aliens [including a “reasonable” allowance for the societal costs of theft, murder, mayhem and propery destruction]. The bigger picture would include the costs of the entire globohomo conspiracy of which illegal immigration is but one part, you know, like burning down LA.

Seven more days.
It means he is willing to use his final act to assist in as many millions of people possible.
Straight up treason.
How does he have the authority to do that?
There’s a MASSIVE problem in our government when one person, be it this pond scum or leftists judges, can single handedly stop actual passed legislation and impose their own personal will on others.
No one person should have that kind of power. EVER.
Over at DU someone was freaking out that we’re all going to starve when the illegals are deported because they are the backbone of our food production capabilities.
What they don’t account for is technology and the fact that fewer illegals means more food for the rest of us and it relieves the housing crunch as well, not to mention its positive impact on education and healthcare and the government budget with not giving away all that free money.
The benefits are legion.
EVI L & EVASIVE. This POS is destructive to the republic. face-words-deeds
THere is already a program for agricultural workers. They get temporary work visas, so they are registered and identified and it is expected that they will return home when their services are not needed.
Those numbers are stupid.
Exactly!
These cost estimates prove that serious crimes committed by Mayorkas illegal. alien invasion is running rampant at off the charts levels
“How does he have the authority to do that?”
No authority. Just threats and bribes for Senators, I think.
Maybe Alejandro Mayorkas is trying to change the subject because he’s behind on shredding evidence against ‘homeland’...
Has Biden signed the bill, or does he intend to veto it?
With only a week to go, they should just let Trump sign it. Mayorkas is fired on day one. He has no authority.
We have too much time between the election and the inauguration.
I propose the inauguration be no later than Jan 1, perhaps even earlier following the elections of a new conress and executive.
Would that require a Constitutional amendment? If so, let’s start the wheel rolling.
