Gavin Newsom is slammed for car crash interview as he furiously tries to shift blame for LA fires
Daily Mail UK ^ | January 12, 2025 | James Cirrone

Governor Gavin Newsom was slammed for claiming that reservoirs in southern California were 'completely full' when at least one of them has been confirmed to be bone dry.

Newsom made the claim during an interview he gave to NBC's Meet The Press about his response to the raging wildfires in Los Angeles that have caused 16 deaths and billions of dollars worth of damages.

NBC News correspondent Jacob Soboroff asked the governor about President-elect Donald Trump's criticism. Trump argued that Newsom's efforts to protect a fish called the Delta smelt has stopped water from being delivered to farmers and major cities.

'I don't know what he's referring to when he talks about the Delta smelt in reservoirs. The reservoirs are completely full, the state reservoirs here in Southern California,' Newsom said.

However, the LA Times reported Friday that the the Santa Ynez Reservoir, a 117-million-gallon water storage complex has been completely empty for over a year. This reservoir serves the Pacific Palisades, an area of west of downtown Los Angeles where a wildfire has grown to about 23,654 acres. Firefighters have only been able to contain 11 percent of the out-of-control blaze.

DailyMail.com further revealed that this reservoir was left disconnected by Department of Water and Power (LADWP) CEO Janisse Quiñones.

On top of that, fire hydrants usually fed by the reservoir were left broken for months before the fires, leading to firefighters running out of water as they battled the devastating blazes.

The reservoir was taken offline in recent months to repair a tear in its cover that exposed the water and potentially impacted its drinkability.

When confronted about this, Newsom simply said Santa Ynez 'was not a state system reservoir.'

Funny how we haven't heard this catastrophe described as a "wake up call" by the MSM-Democrats.

Oh wait. This is a "crisis" the Dems can't spin to their advantage. It'll have to "go to waste" ASAP. I see.

No chickens coming home to roost here, boys and girls.

The liner keeps it from leaking out. Its an open air reservoir, which requires pretreatment prior to putting it in the system. The tear in the liner would have little effect on the treatment of the water.

Pretreatment removes the debris and sediments. It would then be treated with chlorine or flouride to kill the bacteria.

Carlson knows him well and he once said that Newsom is a sociopath,

And/or a psychopath.

He has always reminded me of Ted Bundy. In physical appearance and esp. the eyes.

Democrats ignored Trump and other conservative’s recommendations regarding fire remediation methods.

Then the expected disaster happens.

Democrats: “Everyone else is to blame. Climate change! It’s all Trump’s fault! What are the conservatives going to do to fix the problem? Where is Trump and why isn’t he doing anything to help?”

(By the way, I thought EVs and California’s taxes were going to solve the “climate change” problems. What happened with all those carbon tax dollars?)

BINGO !!! No difference between this reservoir and any other Surface Water Supply as far as any other Treatment requirements.

ONCE AGAIN I WILL ASK THE RELEVANT QUESTIONS:

Why the }{€££ are they not pumping water out of the PACIFIC OCEAN !?!?!?!?!? They have to have a spare pump or 10 and piping available (if not then why not ?) that can be connected to the existing water mains and use the salt water to put out the fires !!! If there’s any thing left to pump potable water to after the fires are put out then flush and “Burn” the Distribution System out and go back to normal supply of water. I don’t understand why they are not doing this OTHER THAN THE IDIOTS (NOT) IN CHARGE OF THE SITUATION ARE STUPIDER THAN STUPID...

Since when do reservoirs need covers and why no backup or replacement cover? This is all Sierra Club fanaticism.

Trump should give California the relief package Biden gave to North Carolina, and give Biden’s California package to North Carolina.

Seems only fair.

I’m curious as to why it has been months to repair a torn liner? Even a complete replacement of a liner of this size can be done in a month. If was a simple tear, they could weld (HDPE plastic) a patch over it.

Even if it needed a leak detection system installed would only add a couple of months.

With my 25 years of city administration background, I’ve become fairly well versed about fire department equipment and their capabilities. The challenge with using ocean water as a primary water source is that it is highly corrosive to the valves, pumps and seals in fire trucks. While the testing and maintenance of those systems is admittedly a bit of a racket due to it being a monopoly industry to an extent, the cost of keeping those systems to national fire standards specs is crazy expensive and knocking out key assets while they are repaired isn’t viable option. That said, I cannot see why they couldn’t use swimming pools, golf course water hazards, public fountains, etc. as makeshift drop tanks to pump from. Most pumper trucks have the capability to draw water from a secondary source. Perhaps some did. Granted, if a whole neighborhood is going up at once having a handful of tanker and pumper trucks with onboard water probably would amount to spitting into the wind at that point.
