Reps. Quang Nguyen and Selina Bliss say the proposal is a direct attack on Second Amendment rights.
An Arizona state legislative report on child deaths that advocates for the removal of all firearms from homes with children has drawn criticism from two lawmakers for violating the Second Amendment.
Republican Reps. Quang Nguyen and Selina Bliss expressed disapproval of the 2023 annual report to the Legislature from the Arizona Child Fatality Review Team in a letter to Jennie Cunico, the cabinet executive officer of the Arizona Department of Health Services.
According to the report, 853 children died in Arizona in 2023, and local CFRP review teams determined that 49 percent of these deaths “were preventable.”
The report cited that the leading causes or manners of preventable deaths in 2023 were motor vehicle crashes, firearm injuries, suffocation, fentanyl poisoning, and drowning.
“Sixty-eight children died due to a firearm injury in 2023, and we have seen a staggering 171 percent increase in child deaths to firearms in the past decade,” the report noted.
The report said that all of the 68 firearm deaths in 2023 were determined to be preventable.

So they want to confiscate firearms from every parent to save one or two lives?
The rest were most likely self inflicted or murder suicide.
Sounds like a Cindy McCain idea.
As a bonus, it is mostly conservatives who even have kids.
I’m not sure a report, no matter how idiotic its recommendations, itself violates the 2A.
Acting on that recommendation would.
And, of course, we here all know that if an honest report were done, they’d have to account for the loss of life and catastrophic impact to both children’s and adults’ lives were Arizonans not able to defend themselves against assault, attempted murder, rape, or other crimes. (latest available stats for AZ: https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2019/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019/tables/table-8/table-8-state-cuts/arizona.xls)
The deaths of children by gun fire is sad. It says there is a staggering increase in those numbers.
A more effective approach is to find the legitimate cause for the increase as well as the overall cause of all child deaths.
The point I’m getting at is when I was a kid there were guns all over the place in just about every home. Many took them to schools. Many guns were hung in the back window of unlocked pickups. Child related deaths were never talked of cause they never happened, at least in my neck of the woods. As kids we watched shoot-em up westerns all day long and never shot anyone with dad’s guns.
Fast forward today and it’s a crisis. Is the root cause guns or the destruction of our culture by the leftists. The same leftists that want to take our guns away. Use this as an excuse to take away guns and the door is wide open for other excuses. Before long we are disarmed and as helpless as the British who have their women raped and no one does anything about it.
You are finite. Zathras is finite. Gun confiscation schemes ... are wrong tool. :D
The Report has the wrong recommendation.
That recommendation should be that parents need a license to have a child.
My father took me out shooting before I was ten years old.
LOL! You won the thread!
I suspect among other things, in typical Democrat “statistics” children include every one under 18 (or 21) trying to imply that those 10 years and under make up all of the firearms deaths. How many were due to teenage gang activity? We may never know.
If Arizona does this they’ll have to ban all motor vehicles and water from families with children, outlaw all accidental suffocation and all drugs in the home. If the drugs that killed the child were illicit, the death penalty to all addicts and dealers.
The 2nd amendment says nay,nay! 😏
Where does the 2A limit itself to age 21 and over?
