X user Dr. Maalouf: Inbreeding is such a big problem in the British Muslim community, that the government is now trying to ban it. The majority of disabled children in the UK are born to Muslim parents.

The English marry their first cousins all the time. It was a recurring plot point in Wodehouse's writings. Honoria Glossop was his first cousin.

Yeah, but Wodehouse was born in the 19th century (married her in early 20th century, 1914). Do the English still marry their first cousins in the 21st century?

Oh Good Lord, I remembered Honoria, but forgot that she was his first cousin.

First cousin marriage is also in Jane Austin novels. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were first cousins. A few of their grandchildren married first cousins.

I wonder how many Brits in Parliament who vote against cousin marriage have supported their Re-Population efforts (aka, mass immigration). I suspect nearly all.

I am sorry. Honoria Glossop was Bertie Wooster’s first cousin, not Wodehouse’s. My point was that it was a recurring theme that rarely was even commented on. There would be more scandal with Bingo Little marrying a diner waitress named Mabel.

No disrespect intended, but I have never, not even for a second, thought of marrying, or even dating, any of my first cousins.

Even the Choctaws understood this. In traditional Choctaw culture the nation was divided into regions called Iksas. Females stayed in their Iksa but males had to leave their Iksa and go to a different Iksa to marry. Some how they knew that this was necessary for their genetic health.

All royalty is inbred. Can’t have the unwashed enter the club.

I think it was required that Roman Emperors had to marry within the family.

Excellent point! I doubt few marry first cousins in the 21st century. Past practices are why first cousin marriage is legal.
