The Legacy Of Jan. 6 Should Be Massive Reform Of The FBI And DOJ
The Federalist ^ | January 07, 2025 | John Daniel Davidson

Four years later, it’s clear that the federal government’s response to Jan. 6 is far worse than anything that happened that day.

Monday marked the four-year anniversary of Jan. 6, 2021, when tens of thousands of peaceful Trump supporters demonstrated outside the U.S. Capitol and a small number of them clashed with police before entering the Capitol itself.

For Democrats and the left, Jan. 6 is the events that vindicates their hatred of Donald Trump and his supporters. They would have us believe it was among the darkest days in our nation’s history, when democracy itself hung in the balance and violent insurrectionists nearly prevented the peaceful transfer of power. Many of them actually believe and still repeat, as Sen. Amy Klobuchar did on Monday, that pro-Trump rioters killed police officers on Jan. 6. Above all, they insist that President Trump was responsible for the riots and chaos of that day, that he planned and instigated it and stood by while it unfolded.

That’s all a lie, of course. Trump supported a calm and peaceful demonstration outside the U.S. Capitol, he urged Democrat leaders to beef up security ahead of the demonstration (they ignored him), and he called for end to the violence soon after it broke out. The transfer of power was never in jeopardy, and the only loss of life was the unjustified killing of an unarmed woman by a Capitol police officer.

Indeed, the real tragedy of Jan. 6 wasn’t what happened on that day but what happened afterwards, when the Biden administration weaponized the Justice Department and the FBI to prosecute more than 1,500 people, the vast majority of whom did nothing wrong.

That weaponization continues to this day. Politico reported on Monday that federal prosecutors are still trying to decide whether to...

Defunding, dismantling, arresting the scofflaws, and scattering the rest to the wind is a form of reform. Let’s try that first.

No reform.

It’s hopeless. Shut it all down, put all current and past employees on a list and bar them from holding any government job in the future.

How about total dismantlement and very small trusted/vetted new agency. No old leadership allowed.

I was thinking along those lines, except why create a new bureaucracy that will become another FBI over time?

Disband the FBI and Congress turns over their duties to a private security firm, on a renewable one-year contract. No old leadership allowed.

There would be incentive for the security company to actually perform, since they're only on contract for one year, and they would be competing for next year's contract.

That would incentivize the company to perform to appeal to whichever party is in control.

We cannot allow the repeated lies to go on.
Heart trouble deaths and so on are not officers being mowed down by terrorists on the Capitol steps with bandoleros and high powered weapons.

The dirty liars on MSNBC and CNN must not be allowed to get away with this.

One woman was killed—— by murder——the unarmed Ashli Babbitt.

The liars on the news and Congress know they are lying.
They must be brought to justice.

If *reform* = *eliminating*, then OK.

Make it purely investigative. Any warrants or arrests have to be coordinated with the local sheriff.

These faggy SWAT douchebags should all be fired or arrested. Destasify the FBI.

Well these are law enforcement agents with powers of arrest, warrants, etc, across the entire country. I don’t want that going to a private security firm. Basically you’re suggesting Blackrock be the fbi. No thanks to that idea as well.

Disagree. The real tragedy was the setup and planned execution of an obvious entrapment: from planting FIB in the crowd the day before to incite a riot, to the firing of teargas to drive people into the building, to the order to open the doors, to the snarky escort within the building, to planting and ignoring the pipe bombs, all as a planned means to keep Congress from opening a debate about the certifications from States such as Arizona, Michigain, Nevada, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. THAT'S a tragedy.

See tag line.

Eliminate the fed on all affronts.
Gone are the days of John Dillinger and outrunning local cops.
Police work has the most vested interest and efface when proffered on a local level by local folks.
We don’t need dc

There was a lot of resistance to the FBI in the first place. People didn’t want a “national” police force. It’s still a bad idea.
On a side note, this is why the left wants to release criminals and defund the police...in order to create an outcry and nationalize our local and state police forces. What could go wrong?

...and the rest of the bureaucracy which played a role, no matter how minor or whether it's ongoing - dc police - or ended prior.
