President-elect Trump announced Tuesday that Emirati billionaire Hussain Sajwani plans to invest $20 billion in the United States “over a very short period of time” to build data centers across the country.
The investment will support the construction of new data centers in the Midwest and Sun Belt regions, with the first phase of the project focusing on Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana.
The influx of funds will help “keep America on the cutting edge of technology,” Trump said at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago.
“Artificial intelligence is very big into the data centers, and that’s going to be a very hot item in the coming years,” he added.
The president-elect was joined at his Palm Beach resort Tuesday by Sajwani, who is CEO of the Dubai-based property development company DAMAC Properties.

Data centers have about 5 employees in a building.
Well the investment is welcome but why doesn’t he build in the UAE? That’s his home.
More data centers mean more underground fiber optic line laid for better overall infrastructure.
true, but the construction gives some temp work, and their presence also brings additional investment in energy infrastructure which is good....and it gives counties tax dollars from property taxes (not that we find that to be a pure plus, here at FR...but the normal “economic development” crowd will always point this out as a plus...)
All the talk about the need to power data centers. No one seems to ask what the data centers are for.
I see a day in the not so far future when people rise up and destroy many data centers.
Servers and hard drives that run all the cloud based services.
Have you perhaps been hearing about all the data cables in the ocean that the Chinese and Russians have been severing.
Good point.
[additional investment in energy infrastructure]
...which usually ends up being paid by taxpayers as an “incentive” for them to build in their location.
What no deep Blue states like California, Oregon, Washington or New York?
I guess Trump is working to economically make deep blue states reconsider their politics.
TRUE-—NOT MANY EMPLOYEES——So NUMBER OF JOBS IS MINIMAL
BUT THEY REQUIRE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF WATER TO COOL THE SERVERS.
One ARTICLE I FOUND SAID THEY USE UP 450,000 GALLONS A DAY——
NOT RECYCLED——USED UP-—DISAPPEAR into the air like steam. NO ‘RECOVERY’ OF ANY KIND
A 264 acres parcel of land was sold in my valley to MICROSOFT...They REFUSE to meet with County Commissioners to discuss the USAGE they have in mind.
EACH PARCEL in this county & IN THIS VALLEY are allowed 2.2 acres feet of water ANNUALLY. REGARDLESS OF SIZE....CANNOT JUST SUBDIVIDE TO GET MORE PARCELS THEN GET MORE WATER.
There are 325,851 gallons in an acre foot of water-—
AN ACRE OF LAND COVERED IN 1 FOOT OF WATER...
2.2 ACRE FEET == 716,872 gallons of water for a year...
Average of 1964 gallons a day for household, livestock, garden of veggies, drip system for trees. NO LAWNS. EVERYTHING HERE IS SAND & SAGE-—N NEVADA HIGH DESERT.
450,000 gallons == the average usage of 229 other parcels in this valley. WHERE PEOPLE ALREADY LIVE.
THIS IS NOT A LARGE VALLEY-—
BUT THIS kind of USAGE IS A LARGE AMOUNT.
WE are all on the same aquifer.....for as far as 35 miles to the east, including the NAVAL AIR STATION AT FALLON, NEV.
THIS IS NOT GOOD NEWS WHEN THIS KIND OF WATER USAGE IS DISCUSSED.
POWER DEMANDS ARE A WHOLE ‘NOTHER STORY.
THIS IS A RURAL VALLEY .......
Great! Just don't staff them with H1Bs!
“More winning”

Don’t think so. Most people here distrust and worry about the creeping Islamist movement and its tentacles in our country.
You don’t really think any of our Arab friends have changed their long term goals, do you?

The new data centers are all about AI.
gonna need more windmills
5 at a time, sure.
Not to mention the HUGE amounts of electricity they need.
I’m hoping we get some new coal-fired or natural gas power plants as well, as the windmills don’t work in the cold/snow very well.
Why new construction? Lots and lots of empty office space just sitting there.
