More than 60 million people are under winter alerts nationwide, with a powerful weather system expected to bring a potent mix of snow, ice and blizzard conditions, accompanied by winds gusting up to 50 mph.

The winter storm, which has already caused snowy and icy conditions in the Central Plains, will create treacherous travel conditions and potential power outages across a vast region stretching from Kansas to the mid-Atlantic.

“For some, this could be the heaviest snowfall in over a decade,” NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center warned.

It’s all fun and games with 9” of snow, then the “wintry mix” begins. Things are going south quickly in the mid Ohio River Valley. I’m likely to get a foot total which is a ten year snow storm around here.

I am dedicated to keeping my husband’s beer fridge (a regular fridge in the garage) well-stocked with at least 6 different beers to choose from on any given day. Any given day. Call me Mrs. Claus.

(There’s also champagne and a couple bottles of wine out there at any point. It works for us.)

OPM has already called it. The tele-”workers” have to “work”, though. Right.

Already done.. OPM announces “maximum work from home” for tomorrow, ha! Like that’s not already a permanent condition of federal employment.

We’re in Eastern Kansas. Lots of highways are shut down. Also stores. Our archbishop said that us old people don’t have to go to Mass and in fact several churches have shut down. We’re retired so I’m sort of loving it but I know it’s a problem for a lot of people. My SIL fell (she’s 80) but she says she’s okay.

Just bought me a new RAV4. Tomorrow will its first snow. Looking forward to it, providing that ice stays south of me. If not, check these out that I bought last month for $15 on amazon.

Since this past Thursday evening here in Rome, NY, we’ve had over 3 feet of snow. The Lake Effect snow warning has been removed as of this evening.

It’s a polar vortex carried by an atmospheric river straight into a high pressure wall where it will become a bomb cyclone!!!

And then drift lazily out to sea.

Those Bracken County roads may not be cleared by tomorrow. I’ve been stuck on those roads quite a few times and hopefully you slide in a ditch near a farm with a tractor. I grew up there.

“Polar Vortex” … they haven’t invented a new term for tonight’s storm yet. Let’s help them!

Here’s one: Tropospheric Avalanche!!!!!! Run for your life dudes!!
