Michigan to Clear 420 Acres of Trees in State Forest for Solar Farm
Breitbart ^ | 01/03/2025 | ELIZABETH WEIBEL

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is planning to clear 420 acres of trees in a state forest in order to build a solar farm, according to a recent report.

A “top state official” confirmed the Michigan DNR’s plans to clear the acres of state forest for a solar farm to MLive.com.

The acres being cleared from the state forest are reportedly among the “4,000 acres of public land” throughout Michigan that will be leased in order to address decreased “revenues from hunting and fishing licenses,” as well as Michigan falling “behind building enough renewable energy.”

Leasing 4,000 acres of public land statewide is partof the DNR’s plan to help remedy both problems in coming years. Officials said that state solar initiative may begin just west of Gaylord.

DNR officials also reportedly “recently assessed 1,200 acres of public trust land in Otsego County near a major power transmission line to decide whether it was suitable for solar arrays,” according to the outlet.

The Daily Wire reported that Chris Martz, a meteorology student, had “published a chart showing nuclear power produces far more power on less land than solar and wind.”

Cutting down beautiful trees for a leaky solar farm? Climate change morons will say nothing. 🙄

It's a good thing that Gaylord isn't the snowfall capital of northern lower Michigan.

Oh, wait - it IS the snowfall capital of northern lower Michigan.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Trees store carbon. Solar farms are made out of all kinds of toxic chemicals and compounds. These people are crazy.

Betcha those trees would have absorbed more CO2 during their remaining lifetimes than the CO2 produced to make the panels plus the CO2 to remove and properly trash them after their very short lifetime (compared to trees). The idiocy of the left never fails to amaze. (It’s an unfair bet ‘cuz I’ll win.)

I’ve been through that area in winter and seen more snowmobiles than cars filling up at gas stations.

The 49th Parallel which is halfway between the equator and the North Pole goes through Gaylord.

Both of those things tell me, an average guy that it’s not a great place for solar.

...maybe they should build their solar farm in the Arctic Circle, where the sun don’t even shine part of the year?

Leasing the land for income. The developers will seek subsidies to build, and the consumers will get higher proces. This is what “renewable” means — money for the few, and revenue from the many to fund the few.

An ugly, inefficient solar farm.

They’re worried about CO2 levels and then cut down 420 acres of the best environmentally friendly carbon capturing devices going.

gleeaikin, this is a perfect example of what I was referring to on that other thread.

Destructive and stupid. Getting rid of trees and putting up solar panels in a state next to Canada. How much power could you generate there between October and March?
