Marjorie Taylor Greene backs Johnson: ‘Let’s put aside the infighting’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced Tuesday that she would be endorsing Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) for House Speaker, a notable win for the Louisiana Republican given Greene has at times found herself at odds with him.

“Here’s what I’m asking my colleagues to do: Let’s put aside our pride, let’s put aside our egos and let’s put aside the infighting,” Greene said in a video posted on the social platform X. “It’s time to come together as Republicans, and it’s time to do whatever it takes to make sure that we deliver the mandate that the American people told us to do.”

“And that’s why I’m excited tomorrow. I cannot wait to get started. I’ll be voting for Mike Johnson,” she continued. “I will be looking ahead in complete hopefulness and working as hard as possible.”

Lawmakers are convening at noon to elect a Speaker, with Johnson hardly able to afford any defections as he looks to keep his gavel.

She’s right. The infighting only hurts US. And it gives the Demonicrats ammo to use against Trump.

Prayers for Trump transition to go smoothly and that infighting doesn’t rip apart what little majority we have in Congress.

What changed her tune is that she finally figured out she looks like a moron when she opposes a House Speaker candidate but can’t find anyone else who can get more than 20 votes for the post.

Good. We have to have a speaker so the members can be sworn in and certify the Presidential election.
We can work on getting a new speaker later.

I am out of the loop, I thought Mike Johnson was instrumental in campaigning for Trump and helping to get him elected? Why is everyone so against him now?

We can’t just expect the whole world to turn MAGA overnight. *eyeroll*

I’m not against monkey wrenches when they’re warranted. But this is not the time.

Well....probably. I would have, told her to let it go for now so that things could get started. He undermines Trump, the knives come out and he is done at a later date. Seems like common sense...which probably isn’t common in DC.

To some on Free Republic, Mike Johnson is too liberal, and too willing to make nice with Democrats, and willing to compromise on some issues.

That’s why some conservatives dislike him now.

Nope. She always been a 100% Trump. When Johnson was selling u s out to Biden and Schumer out she opposed him.

Situation is vastly different now that we have Trump and a GOP Senate to work with.

You mean like Massie who voted 15 times for McCarthy and opposed ousting him from the Speakership?

Today Massie posture looks like infantile egotism, not principals

Exactly. They need to coalesce around MAGA. I don’t care about their personal ego’s and agendas.
