‘Hit Em Where It Really Hurts’: Gregg Jarrett Teases Legal Fallout For Dems Attempting To Harbor Illegal Immigrants
Daily Caller News Foundation ^ | December 30, 2024 | Hailey Gomez

Posted on 01/02/2025 4:45:50 AM PST by george76

Legal analyst Gregg Jarrett said Monday on Fox Business how Democratic officials attempting to harbor illegal immigrants could face legal repercussions, including jail time or the withholding of federal funds.

Illegal immigrant Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, a 33-year-old Guatemalan national, was indicted on Friday for allegedly killing a woman by setting her on fire during a subway ride. On “The Bottom Line,” Jarrett was asked about an immigration detainer placed on Zapeta-Calil, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) telling Fox News that although a detainer was lodged, the New York City Department of Corrections would not honor it due to its current policy.

“Well, that individual is defying several federal laws. It’s a crime to conceal, harbor, or shield anybody here illegally. It’s also a felony to interrupt, hinder, or impede federal officials in deportation, as you just pointed out,” Jarrett said.

“So for example, in Denver, the mayor at one point promised, ‘Oh, I’m going to mobilize police and the citizens. We’re going to stop Trump’s deportation orders.’ Well, I got news for him,” Jarrett added. “That is a crime punishable by five years behind bars for each illegal you are shielding. So if you’re shielding 10, that’s 50 years, 20, that’s 100 years behind bars.”

Since President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in November, Democratic officials have ramped up their pushback against his plans for the largest deportation of illegal immigrants. Leaders like Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Democratic Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston have vowed to resist Trump and his nominated border czar, Tom Homan, with Johnston even saying the city’s police and residents will not assist in the process.

...

Jarrett went on to say that if prison time wouldn’t intimidate Democratic officials enough, a cut in federal funding could be enough to ward off their threats.

“If the threat of prison isn’t enough to get the attention of these mayors and governors, I say hit them where it really hurts, their wallets,” Jarrett said. “That’s all they care about is money. Congress passed a law in 1996 that requires them to cooperate with ICE, detainers, information, and so forth. If they don’t do it, they can lose billions of federal dollars doled out each year.”

“That would bankrupt certain cities and states. So it’s long overdue to force these sanctuary jurisdictions to abide by federal law, which, by the way, supersedes any state or local laws on deportation,” Jarrett said.

Since his nomination as border czar in November, Homan has repeatedly warned against the pushback to Trump’s deportation plans. During an interview on Fox News, Homan told Democratic officials, like the mayors, to “get the hell out of the way” and said that attorney general nominee Pam Bondi could bring legal charges.

Prior to Election Day, polls showed that illegal immigration was one of Americans’ top concerns when choosing who to vote for. Since President Joe Biden took office in 2021, the southern border has seen record-high numbers, with over 7 million illegal immigrants encountered by officials, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.

It was the liberals who pushed for Elian Gonzalez to be forcibly deported back to Cuba, but now they are anti-deportation.

Throw them in jail. RAID their homes and take them into custody in their pajamas.

I won’t be happy until news anchors are crying on tv

Bring personal charges that can't be defended at taxpayer expense.

Break any dem official or supporter possible financially with legal fees.

Destroy their families and futures as they have done to normal Americans,

It was the liberals who pushed for Elian Gonzalez to be forcibly deported back to Cuba...

...because his "Blood Father" requested HIS son be returned to him since the mother had drowned.

Can't claim a father has an obligation to financially support a minor child at the same time urinating on "Father's Rights".

I’d prefer them crying in prison cells.

You can’t use the Gonzalez boy as an example due to a common denominator with that kid and today’s illegal aliens. It’s communism.

The commie’s wanted Gonzalez deported to Cuba. The libs approved. The commie’s want the US invaded at the southern border. The libs approve.

re: Throw them in jail. RAID their homes and take them into custody in their pajamas.

Do it at 5 in the morning and make sure the conservative media is there to film it, since CNN and MSNBC will tip them off

Let them know how it feels. Seize their phones and computers

I probably would’ve been OK with Jarrett as AG. He’s been consistently smart and conservative in his reporting — plus a layer (of course).

So you can deny parents a role in preventing their children from 'transitioning', but you can't stop them from forcing their child to give up their freedom and to go back to a Communist nation that they don't want to go back to.

There’s more than just a bit of Wyatt Erp comes to Dodge in Trump assuming the presidency…

You get it. The process is punishment.

It won’t take arresting many either before the rest of the braggadocious paper tigers fold. I live in a sanctuary state and our commie governor-elect sued the Trump administration over 50 times while he was the state attorney general. He’s also set up a committee to “Trump Proof” the state.

I so welcome the arrival of Tom Holman. This should be one of President Trump and Secretary Holman’s first stop…there’s bad history and blood here. I can’t wait to see the little metrosexual egotistical little dictator wannabe governor get crushed. It will do wonders for this state.

True, but for years sanctuary states like mine have ignored and dared the Feds to stop them. The Feds have consistently backed down resulting in this state thinking it was omnipotent.

Our state sued the previous Trump administration 50+ times. The state attorney general is now the governor-elect and has started implementing a “Trump Proof” plan of resistance. This showdown is going to be one for the books.

I can’t hardly wait…the comeuppance is going to help this state immensely.

If you are a liberal, yes, you can be inconsistent like that. But, if you are conservative, you recognize parental rights. Whether trans-ing, aborting, deporting/ reuniting.
