Videos of a Tesla Cybertruck exploding outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas in an apparent explosion made headlines across social media this New Year’s Day.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear, but speculation ran rampant, fueled by heightened concerns following a terrorist attack in New Orleans earlier in the day. Though some speculated that it was merely a freak explosion, videos shared to social media show firework-style mortars exploding in and around the vehicle following some sort of detonation, and according to reports, investigators are treating the incident as a possible terror attack.
Many figured as much, noting the connection between Tesla, which is owned by Elon Musk, and the Trump Hotel, owned by Donald Trump.
According to officials, the Cybertruck pulled into the valet area of the hotel before it exploded. The driver was killed in the blast. Thankfully, no other fatalities have been reported, although several bystanders sustained minor injuries.
Another question is whether the Las Vegas incident and the New Orleans incident are connected. According to the Associated Press, the Cybertruck involved in the Las Vegas incident was rented through Turo, the same car-sharing platform used to obtain the vehicle in the New Orleans attack. While there’s currently no evidence linking the two incidents, authorities are not ruling out terrorism, and they have deemed the Las Vegas explosion an intentional act.
Three senior U.S. law enforcement officials have confirmed that the blast was deliberate.
As investigations continue, this alarming incident underscores the growing concern over the use of cutting-edge technology in acts of violence and raises questions about potential security gaps in peer-to-peer rental platforms.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the incident on X Wednesday afternoon.

No BLlM or rainbow flag murals damaged?
“Apparent explosion”???
Gonna park this here.... hat-tip to freepersup.
The Las Vegas po po are giving a briefing right now on FAUX NEWS for dumb people, hat tip to Steve Bannon.
The explosion in the TESLA was gasoline, camp stove fuel (white gas), and fireworks.
The driver is dead inside the vehicle and is immolated.
The po po know the driver’s identity.
Not willing to release the name just yet...
The vehicle was rented in Colorado, from Turo, same rental agency as New Orleans mass murderer used.
Driver was tracked using TESLA charging stations across the USA.
Driver arrived in Las Vegas in the morning, and drove up and down the strip, then went to Trump Hotel and initiated detonation after being in front of the building for 15 seconds.
Blast rated entrance doors at the hotel held and did not fail.
TESLA vehicle did not malfunction based on all telemetry, per MUSK and top level engineers.
Sounds like the build of the Cybertruck, ugly as it is, forced most of the explosion upward in the vehicle and not sideways. That had to help in containing damage to the building.
Oh, and one other positive, if we’re looking for silver linings to these terrorists attacks. This has removed Musk from the H1-B noise for now, even if short-lived.
They can't release the name until all social media has been locked away from the public and all connections to dem/liberal groups can be sanitized.
The hatchback worked like a blow-out panel.
If Tesla was able to track the vehicle via its recharging on its journey to Las Vegas, maybe they can figure out who was in the vehicle and release the name. You have to figure Musk wants to do this, because the FBI is going to cover up that information in the name of “security”. Prior to Clinton, I would have believed the FBI. Now, no f*cking way!
A few FReepers are still talking about H1B now.
I got a Dollar (US$) that says Teslas have a built in GPS system.
Here’s my conspiracy take intelligence agencies are just burning assets setting loose their mind altered stock of people because they don’t want to continue monitoring them and thus reveal they have them.
Driver identified: Matthew Livelsberger of Colorado Springs
What I don’t like is Elon Musk’s & Tesla’s unauthorized ability to track the location & movement of its vehicles being operated by private citizens. Sure, helpful in this case, but raises serious civil rights concerns. We already are in a hyper surveillance state; why add to the pile of personal information available to the government & other bad actors.
Does the vehicle have self-driving capability? If so, it’s being monitored. Google’s vehicles are, and not just with computers.
I see some info about him on X.
Both the NO and LV cars were rented from Turo which is an AirBnB for cars. You can put any vehicle you own up for rent. You rent via the Turo app, so both of the perps had to be registered in the app and have a payment method set up.
Turo says this about trackers on client cars: “Turo permits hosts to use tracking and technology devices in order to track and protect their vehicles. These include, but aren’t limited to, AirTags, cameras, GPS, aftermarket vehicle tracking technology, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices, and telematics devices. Turo requires hosts in some locations to disclose their use of tracking and technology devices in their vehicle. Turo also requires hosts in all locations to disclose certain kinds of tracking/technology devices to guests.”
You’d have to be a fool to rent out your car and NOT have a tracker on it.
So you have the telemetry from the vehicle itself and the (likely) tracking telemetry by the Turo vehicle owner.
His end appears to be a suicide with a blast.
